For 4 yr bridge 5 mill is too high.
No auction. Threaten him with no NHL for the year. No big $$. No closer to UFA. Let him sit. Don’t blink.

- Dr. Leaf

I’d sign him to 4 years at 5 a year and call it a day right now.

Because you are tired of hearing about it, or because that number seems right?
I’d say 4.5 over 4 years. So Getting close.
I don’t disagree with him for exercising his right to get what he feels he is worth. Just don’t think he is worth what he is rumoured to be asking. Odd, since I do feel he is very valuable and underrated by those willing to trade him for some pretty run of the mill defensemen.

This again.
There is no young RHD with his potential available for trade. It just doesn’t make sense unless you know of a candidate to target that hasn’t been mentioned. The ones that have and are at all available just aren’t a good enough return. Dubas isn’t the dumbass Chiapet is.

- Dr. Leaf

Yes, this, again. Why? Because the Leafs don't have a #1 RHD yet.

St. Louis looks terrible this year so far and if they continue to be bad, Pietrangelo could get moved. He has 1 year left on his deal and he fits the bill almost perfectly. He's not the best RHD in the league but he's up there, he's a two-way player and he's from King City so maybe he hops aboard the Tavares train.

Just because there aren't rumors about players, doesn't mean it's impossible to acquire them. Gretzky was traded, anybody can be traded, at any time, just a matter of price and circumstance.

4 years by 5 seems like a decent deal to me for both sides, maybe even cheap for the leafs. It’s 4 years, not 2. If you think he’s only worth 4.5 for 4 years, what do you think he should get with a 2 year deal? 3 a year? Can’t see him taking a 4 year deal at a number like that anyway.

Pietrangelo just had triplets

That means he is currently getting less sleep than Gardiner 😮

Nonna Pietrangelo can help with that for the next 8-10 years.

I doubt Edmonton would do that, they'd have little to gain by doing that.

He's their #1 D right now in ice time. Would you trade your 23 year old #1 D for Gardiner and Brown?

It’s not your worst idea, but it’s not a good one either.

Pietrangelo is 6 years older than Nylander, and will want a fat paycheque after next year(especially with the point boost he’ll get playing with the Leafs). St.Louis probably doesn’t do this deal without more coming back.

Even if it’s 1-for-1 you’re trading an appreciating asset for a more expensive depreciating one... better to just wait until after the cap crunch season and try to sign him, if the d prospects in the system still need more seasoning.

Not really.

A 4 year deal keeps him an RFA for his next deal

Kucherov got 4.75x3 after back to back 65 point seasons. Extremely similar.

Then take into account the cap increase. 3x5.

Also take into account it’s 4 years. 4x5 very fair for the leafs

Yep Everyone, including myself thought they would be a top team in the West. Boy, were we all ever wrong. I know it's early and still tons of time for them to turn it around but I just don't see it.

Would be nice to see Nylander sign a contract today or within the next couple days. If it goes longer than a week and still no deal I feel that meeting got nowhere and the chances of him being traded increase dramatically.

Top priorities for Leafs / Dubas:

1. sign Matthews to a contract extension
2. sign Marner to a contract extension

1341. sign Nylander to a contract extension

I'd be fine with it if it was just their goalie letting them down, but their offense is mediocre and their defense (much lauded on paper) has been crap.

The Anaheim Ducks have signed holdout power forward Nick Ritchie to a three-year contract......

Toronto's William Nylander is the final unsigned restricted free agent in the NHL.

"Lionel" Ritchie signs with the Ducks for $4.63 mil over 3 years. Boy he made out like a bandit for holding out! $1.63-$1.5-$1.5.. Nice! And he's still an RFA after 3

Question boils down to the following:

in a few years (2), Leafs will have to let go of at least one, but probably two of the following players.
which one can they miss most?

Nylander
Andersen
Kadri
Zaitsev
Dermott
