But you can keep your 22 year olds, so (frank) the 40 year old, he can (frank) off and keep the young guys who still have 1000 games ahead of them. In no universe is Marleau's 6 million better spent on Marleau than on Nylander. - Unholy_Goalie
Marleau is still the 2nd best LW on this team after Hyman, and Leafs have a lot of young guys who were given a chance. |

Wingers can usually play either wing, it's not a big deal for most of them. Leivo was playing LW for the start of the season, then they moved him to RW on the 4th line. Kapanen could play LW if needed. Nylander could probably do it too. The differences between LW and RW is minor and most of the wingers they have could switch. |

I was trying to emulate some dumbass comments that people make about Dubas in a cheeky way by trying to highlight the contradictions people make in their arguments on a regular basis. *ahem max
In general, I like that Dubas is being hard-nosed in his first negotiation. Can't give everyone everything. - TheMussel
Emulation is the highest form of masturbation.

I may have that incorrect |

Well players can still injure themselves when not playing.
Look at Rask cutting his hand with a knife or Sakic injuring himself with his snowblower. |

Take any top player from any top team and they will suffer. Using an injury is a lame excuse, especially when it'd be Tavares filling the void, followed by Marner and Kadri. - Unholy_Goalie
Id rather have nylander on the top line if matthews were down than kap.
Right now. |

Amen.
Marleau has nothing to do with Nylander's contract.
Whether we have $10 million in cap space or $100 million in cap space, Nylander should not get $8 millly per year. |

It's amazing what five years of frequenting a website to raise one's sense of self-worth through comparative reflection does to a man. |

Marleau back with kadri and put one of lindholm or brown on the 4th. |

and there you have it...
Nylander - by any objective measure is not worth more than Pastrnak. Pastrnak signed for 5 or 6 years at 6.66
therefore all the blathering that Lebrun(in particular) and Dreger, yadda yadda yadda have done, Button saying he would sign him if he was still a GM to an 8x8 contract is all just noise.
I hope that GM HarryPotter will now offer 4 years at 5M and let Nylander stew. Give him one or possibly (at most) two offers, one shorter term and then a mid-range offer, and if he isn't signed by November 9th... start the auction.

Do we think that Florida would trade us Huberdeau (5.9m LW) for Nylander 🤔
He is struggling currently (aka buy low) |

More a case of reality than being a hard-ass here. He's worth between $6 and $6.6 on a long term deal. Everyone is assuming that the only sticking point is money - we don't know that for certain. I'm pretty sure he really wants to stay with the Leafs. If he signs a deal with no NTC attached for a team friendly amount he will be the player mostly likely to be moved. If Dubas gets him at a good number, I will be as happy as when they moved Phaneuf with no salary retained. A bridge deal gets them past the Marleau deal.

Pay his dad $2m a year to be a swedish scout but never require him to do any actual work. Get pops on their side lol |

Cap space is like the most important thing for a contender though. Get him on a good deal and he's virtually untouchable for the leafs. The higher the deal the more likely he will have to be moved. Same with a bridge deal. If he signs a bridge deal and dominates he's as good as gone once it's done.
Edit: Imo of course. Not being UG here and saying I'm definitely right lol |

He wants a clause in his contract that he's never less than the 3rd prettiest member of the team. |
