Great win for the Oilers yesterday! McDavid is just on another level.

Last year when the Jets beat the Oilers early in the season it was a season shifting game and maybe just maybe this was a season changing game for the Oilers.

I picked Jets vs. Oilers in the Western Confernec Championship, hopefully it comes true!!!

Problem I currently see, is that they have no real reason to move him.

I mean their special teams suck, but what exactly can we do to fix that? Their PP they can rejig and we have enough PK problems ourself without moving someone that PK's for us.

The other issue we have is Brodziak is doing very little. There was a bit of a fantasy world that maybe he could play 3C and allow us to move Strome. (frank) we can't do that anytime soon. There was also a bit of a fantasy that Strome, kassian and a pick would get you Faulk. I guess if it's a 1st maybe.

- Lahey

My fantasy was him solidifying the 4C role

True, yet I’ve watched other players create scoring chances at least. No so much with Number 27. And now that the league is really cracking down on physicality, he’ll likely be an even greater liability than before.

lucic doesnt help leon in the least. quite the opposite.

get leon as far away from him as possible

trade looch for whatever u can get

Must still be (frank)ing with his head, cause he’s averaging over 15 minutes a game and is a -4 with only 2 (frank)ing shots on net. 2! That’s it! In 4 (frank)ing games!

As to your edit, where did you read that? I had no idea his death wasn’t due to natural causes.

I see your point. I just hope Lucic can bounce back to being what he was brought in to be. A tough son a female dog that can play a simple game and be a complementary piece to support the offense.

His line is also getting absolutely caved in possession. His EV scoring has been sub-3rd line since he came to Edmonton so I'm gonna have to disagree heavily with his stance that any team would want a healthy Lucic on their team- and that's without factoring his contract into the equation.

In fairness to him, the whole team has been unproductive sans-McDavid so I won't limit that critique to just him.

Possession wise, ya, his line has been (frank)ed like a dog this season. However, career-wise, even with Edmonton, he has actually posted decent possession numbers and is in the positive range when it comes to relative values. I will note that I don't know the categories of what establishes a top 6 from a top 9 forward in terms of possession metrics though.

Possession and scoring metrics are two entirely different things. His possession numbers haven't been a problem, it's his scoring metrics (both raw and rel) that are my issue. He used to score well at 5-on-5 but, since arriving here, he hasn't. Whether that's a Todd issue, a "fit" issue or a Milan issue is up to interpretation but it's clearly not working.

The only reason I brought up the possession metrics was due to you saying that his line was getting caved in terms of possession, showing that what you said is true so far into this season, however, it is not indicative of Lucic's career numbers on average.

As for the scoring metrics, what are you using (database, along with any specific metrics that you are using)?

Fair enough. I had intended for it to mean just this season so far but I guess I left an interpretive gap. My bad!

As for stats, I generally use Natural Stat Trick and to quantify overall offensive impact I try to synthesize things like individual pts (raw and per 60), on-ice goals/60, scoring chances (reg and high danger), individual chance generation, zone entries (other websites) and a few other things (shot location heat maps, for example). I can try to pull up the other places I use if you want, but it'll have to be after Friday.

Y'all remember Tom Gilbert? My drunk ass remembers him...

I 'member when you (frank)ed off and even tho it was slow... people were still content that you had (frank)ed off.

You got lucky that one of the 3 people on this entire site that can tolerate you went to bat for you and is now a ref. 98% of this site wants you gone and you abuse rules and create fake account after fake account after fake account that continuously get banned, yet get allowed back. You and EKs completely made up rumors are what are completely wrong with this site, add in a touch of some of the overly sensitive refs who ban opposing fans for ruffling some feathers in their threads (mostly the leafs threads banning for opposing thoughts to their self righteous fans getting butt hurt when someone disagrees with an opinion that they are either current favorites or 1 step away from a dynasty).

If you had any respect for those that lost their rights, you would delete your account, or at least stop posting for the length of time you were originally suspended for. And if HB had any self respect, they would ban you and any account they deemed and found to be you, for as long as your original suspension was meant to be. And anytime you broke it it restarted.

But one single person likes you that works in your favour, so the rest of us have to suffer. So I cannot wish you to and die, but I can in fact wish for you to at least twice and see how it goes. Hey, maybe it smartens you up. Least case scenario you become a little more annoying, possibly become aggressive like a couple others now on permaban.

Didn't Washington have poor special stats? Maybe it's time to start watching and seeing how the guy fires up his teammates and wears competition down. Instead of he looks bad on a spreadsheet from some guy eating KFC in his basement

I'm sure we could track different stats from different categories that would provide positives or negatives to our individual pro/con. This days stat tracking is ridiculous. Eye test tells me plays end and die either on or coming off off Lucic's stick... 9 guys can provide stats that prove otherwise. Who is to be taken more seriously, the guy who watched the game/play? Or the guy who looked over the advanced stat sheet after? While bias may be taken out of context by only watching, other intangibles cant be taken into context by simply using stat sheets and charts. A happy medium needs to be found, in the NHL it's simply one or the other right now. Its James Tanner or someone who has watched a complete game. A happy medium needs to be found.

Yes, because no one can use stats AND enjoy watching hockey while synthesizing both sets of information...

No, it's not simply one or the other. It's only that way to you because your main exposure to stat tracking seems to be James (frank)ing Tanner- a rather arrogant provocateur with a cursory grasp of stats and a glaringly limited scope.

I'd go as far as to say that the most involved stat trackers, followers and readers enjoy watching hockey more than the vast majority of other hockey fans. That's why they invest their time and energy learning more and more about the game.
