Sounds like his dad's death was an issue for him last year and he bottled everything up. Curious to see if now that he's seeked help that he can fill that void his dad left.
- Lahey

This may be the best explanation for how the prior season played out. Lucic himself stated that it was his mentally that got in the way.

Hopefully, he can fill that void though, it ain't easy to replace a dad.

Edit: I just looked up the details pertaining to his dad's death. Apparently, his dad committed suicide. Damn.

I try different things. Like leave the top in for a while, then take the top out and put the bottom back in

Really don't know what the (frank) to do with our defense anymore. Russell can play top 4 for a bit, but then what the (frank) is left over for the bottom pairing?

Do we go

Nurse-xxxx
xxxx- Larsson
Klef-xxxxx

Try spread even up the pairings? Nothing looks good. Need another guy that can play around 20 minutes a night.

Sekera would be handy right about now... and Russell needs to go away.

I'd say give Gravel a shot on the bottom pairing. Benning wasn't particularly good last night but I think that was more a Garrison problem. Send Garrison down, call-up Gravel, alternate Benning and Bouchard until Bouchard goes back to junior. At that point, call-up Bear after he's had around 10-15 games to remind himself of what his best attributes are and then play those who post the best results.

If you can trade Benning and a pick for an upgrade at RD then you do it, but I doubt that's available any time soon so we've gotta do the best we can with what we have.

Russell needs to stay here until we have the players to fill that 2RD hole. He's a capable enough player there to help that pairing stay CLOSE to pulling even (~46-49%).

I feel we'd be looking at two deals. Benning for whatever and then a pick/prospect for a better d-man.

With that being said, I'm not exactly against Benning playing a #6/#7 role with 10-13 minutes a night.

I worry we just dump Benning and force others to play more than they can. I rather Benning being that guy to struggle rather than Bouchard and Bear all of a sudden get more minutes they can't handle.

I wish Russell was making 3mil with only 1 or 2 years left.

If the price was right I wouldn't mind seeing Faulk in an Oiler jersey.

If we could get away with picking him up for a Skinner like return it would be worth it.

Problem I currently see, is that they have no real reason to move him.

I mean their special teams suck, but what exactly can we do to fix that? Their PP they can rejig and we have enough PK problems ourself without moving someone that PK's for us.

The other issue we have is Brodziak is doing very little. There was a bit of a fantasy world that maybe he could play 3C and allow us to move Strome. (frank) we can't do that anytime soon. There was also a bit of a fantasy that Strome, kassian and a pick would get you Faulk. I guess if it's a 1st maybe.

Depending what happens with their goaltending I wonder if they try making a team take Darling and Faulk.

If we can get rid of Sekera or Lucic without retaining too much and the price was less then a 3rd and a low-end prospect (so nigh impossible), then sure. Otherwise, I'm gonna pass.

Must still be (frank)ing with his head, cause he’s averaging over 15 minutes a game and is a -4 with only 2 (frank)ing shots on net. 2! That’s it! In 4 (frank)ing games!

As to your edit, where did you read that? I had no idea his death wasn’t due to natural causes.

His line is also getting absolutely caved in possession. His EV scoring has been sub-3rd line since he came to Edmonton so I'm gonna have to disagree heavily with his stance that any team would want a healthy Lucic on their team- and that's without factoring his contract into the equation.

In fairness to him, the whole team has been unproductive sans-McDavid so I won't limit that critique to just him.

True, yet I’ve watched other players create scoring chances at least. No so much with Number 27. And now that the league is really cracking down on physicality, he’ll likely be an even greater liability than before.

I certainly agree. Strome is actually a remarkably low-event player who I think would make for a solid landing spot for Lucic. Strome's lines keep goals against low enough that they don't need to worry about scoring all that much. People will likely still complain that their line isn't producing much, but at least they're likely not being outscored by too much.
