Mcdavid has been on the score sheet for 9/10 Oilers goals this year. Mcdavid can make things happen and is a game changer.

We have seen flashes of that in Eichel but it seems most nights we have a 10 million dollar complimentary player

No.

I also have no idea why people want Mittelstadt sent down. He’s been absolutely fine and has been close to 2 or 3 goals already.

Lets everyone calm down just a bit. We are going to have inconsistency early on, and we all knew that. We should know by game 25ish whether or not this team is going to jell, and whether the youth will develop fast enough (looking at Mittelstadt and Dahlin in particular), for us to make a true run at a playoff spot. Right now, there is certainly work to do.

Goaltending looks good. I don't think we are icing the best team possible and that is annoying as hell.

Also, kinda figured the boys would be out in LV being bad (H&B) and that this game would be a let down. I'll mark the game in Vegas as a loss every year. The Vegas culture is a true home ice advantage for them. (yup, I just used "culture" in the correct way)

I feel like I'm watching a different game than everyone else when people say that. That was easily the best line last night

Yikes, I thought it would be November before the board turned on Eichel.

Totally predictable, though

Waive Eichel
Send Mittelstadt to Cincinnati
Fire Housley into the sun
Drown Botterill in nacho cheese
Something vaguely racist about Kim Pegula

Gonna be a long year for some posters with the negativity that's surrounding the best Sabres team in 6 years

- jcragcrumple

70 point pace isn’t good enough because Matthews is having a hot start where he’s shooting 50% and that’s bound to continue

It was a bad loss last night. We should have at least made it interesting. Scored 2 more goals.

They still need to get better defensively and need to gel. This team did have the most churn so I understand that point.

When that happens we'll know where we stand. If they can keep .500 in the next 25 games they may have a chance if they learn how to play and win as a team.

Matthews has 16 points in 7 games
McDavid has 9 points in 4 games
Eichel has 5 points in 6.

Yes, Matthews and McDavid are doing great, but they are scoring goals with a shooting percent of 45.5% and 36% respectively, neither which is sustainable. Eichel at 12.5% would be more reasonable, and with more chemistry with new linemates hopefully his production will pick up (zero assists on the 49 power plays.)

And, McDavid obviously is a great player, but what is really a game changer? Shouldn't a game changer actually change the results of the game?

Also, last year it took 10 games to win our 3rd game of the season and this year we did it in 5. If we can avoid the same 7 losing streaks of 4 games or more that will definitely help keep us in the hunt much longer. In contrast to the losses, we only had one 3 game win streak and three 2 game streaks.

To be clear, a low me to say I m not there with the severe criticism of Jack.
He isn't the biggest problem by any stretch.
Sure, who wouldn't want to see him putting up Matthews numbers...but he is a PPG player.
My point is, it is the Year of Transition, as the roster transitions away from a 31st finish to hopefully playoff caliber next year.

For now,
They are who we thought they were

IF this team plummets to last place, again. Yes the whole thing needs to be blown up.

If they are a .500 club that means they are improving.
They won 25 games last year. .500 would be a 12-15 win improvement.
That's a step in the right direction.

Hopefully
Guhle
Pilut
Nylander
Olofsson

Can outproduce
Scandella
Bogo
Pominville
Larsson/Girgs

With how bad teams like Detroit, AZ and the Rangers are looking...we won't be last. At the same point, I think bottom 5 is close enough. We should see steps in the standings.

I think that can happen and it seems the players you just named do have the ability of beating out the latter group. Larsson and Pommer, to me, have already been surpassed and should be gone. I know Pommer gets a lot of love around here, not on board at all.

That's what Botterill is already doing. It takes time. I'll post this again - 25% of the cap is Bogo, Moulson, Okposo and Pommer

Right, takes time to repair the damage GMTM did. So far, he's shown an impressive amount of restraint on extensions. JB's first defining move will be Skinner.

They really should do everything they can to extend him.

He’s this teams best winger by a margin (despite his slow start)
