It's important to note that the AAV for offer sheets isn't necessarily the AAV of the entire contract. The total contract value is divided by the length of the contract or 5, whichever is less.

So if a team signs Nylander to a 5-year, $8M offer sheet, that would be a $8M AAV and would return a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick. However, if a team signs him to a 7-year, $8M offer sheet, that would be an AAV of $11.2M, or four first round picks.

- tkecanuck341

Good point, the range would be from about $7 million to $8.18 million. for only giving up a 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Anything over $8.18 would be 4 - firsts. Not a likely scenerio in either case.

I think the og deal was in between 6-6.3 per.
- Fakepartofme

Where is this news coming from? The 6.3 X 6 years and the 6.875 X 8 ?
Or this some wishful thinking?

Leafs are 6-1, have the top 2 point scorers, the league leader in goals, the top scoring defender, a powerhouse power play, and the goalie almost everyone ruled out just played a fantastic game...

People are dumb, they base their opinion after 1-2 games. They expect them to look like superstars right off the hop. If they don't, they're a bust.

I’ll take him at a good contract and would love it.

But at this point...Dubas has a 6-1 team and a player in Kap that is playing lights out in his place. There’s no chance in hell that Dubas would cave in and Willie knows that.

He played the only card he had and so far has failed miserably. I’m interested to see where this goes in the coming weeks. Could hear some legit trade winds soon.

- Santo_44

If the Nylander camp suspects he might be traded anyway, it would explain why he isn't going to sign a team-friendly deal.

That means this drags out for a while since a signed Nylander is worth more than an unsigned Nylander.

This is all good for the Leafs... the longer it goes, the more they get to see what they have with the guys playing. It also means, if they do make a trade, they pay less cap this year on the player coming in.

The only way out from this mess for Nylander, if he wants to remain a Leaf, is an inexpensive bridge deal, and play his ass off so that they would be crazy to trade him.

If I disagree, I will address what he says, once.
If you don't go down the rathole with him, he can't drag it out ad nauseum.

I don't care if he continues to argue, and I give him the "last word"

On a side note, Sens and Habs have started the season much better than any of us would have ever thought.

I know it's early, but still.

just means a worse draft pick

... but hopefully Ottawa still wins the draft lotto.

Nylander is such a loser If i was a player id be so jealous, antsy and pissed off that I cant be able to play or celebrate wins with the team and friends.

This contract bullpoop is so old now, he seriously has to come down to earth and Dubas cant be lowballing him. Literally his worth is 6.5-6.75M on a 6-8 year contract. 7M is the max i would go and that is still over doing it Anything over 7M is a joke, anytime nylander camps asks over 7M i would hangup the phone instantly.

- Matthewz1992_

I don't think the Leafs need to go anywhere near 7. A bridge deal is perfectly acceptable. He isn't even in the discussion with Kucherov, who took a bridge deal.

Id like to see 6.5 x 6-8 years, or a bridge of 4.25 x 3 years. Either works. Honestly its mind boggling that Nylander is sitting out right now. How stupid can his representation be to actually hold out for a number that is clearly unreasonable compared to all the players that have signed.

Well in all honesty, Lindholm isnt going to be some great player. He is being misused on the 3rd line and should be on the 4th IMO. Why they havent tried Andreas Johnsson with Kadri blows my mind considering how lackluster the 3rd line as been.

i had a couple exchanges with Wedgie on here about Kap. He had him as a bust and a waste of a trade piece for Kessel with less than 10 NHL games

Yeah, so did I. To be fair, he really looked like a guy going nowhere. His effort is starting to catch up with his skill though.
