No one skilled enough, they'll just have to flood the net after they work it down low with numbers and get it to the point for an Edler shin blast.

Just wanted to weigh in on an active thread. In response to folks that say relax, it was a 2 minute penalty for MM on EP ...

Even as a Canuck fan, I would agree. Had there been no injury, it would just be a lesson learned. The guy was obviously after him after being dangled a few times. Gotta get your stick up or something to deter rather than trust that a guy is only going to rub you out or check you legally. Then wait for Brashear or Odjick to arrive ... wait what year is this again??

The only thing is that the league has, for some time now, taken injury into account so he probably gets a game or two.

Elias Pettersson (concussion) remains with VAN on their road trip (PIT Tues and WPG Thursday) but will not be seeing any game action for a minimum of seven to 10 days and perhaps longer depending on his recovery from symptoms.

So they have EP flying with the team despite concussion symptoms?

They can’t be this stupid.

I think it was last year or the year before but didn't they have I think it was either Tanev or Horvat stay in the city (I want to say Phili) and then fly down to Vancouver when he was cleared. He just had to stay at the hotel longer.

Brandon Saad a healthy scratch tonight. Panarin for Saad might turn out to be one of those massively lopsided deals.

I think everyone is jumping on the media sky-is-falling train – everything that people here hate on writers for. There is a lot of information out there saying its case-by-case, and as long as the concussion isn't bad/there are minimal symptoms it's not unsafe to fly. Could he have stayed an extra day or two? Sure, but I'd think that the doctors they have are qualified enough (especially after the Demko story) to assess the situation and make the correct call.

Not specifically you, just the hysteria in here is getting nauseating.

Like they cleared Demko to fly?

There’s still new data that comes out every year about head injuries, it’s just not the same as diagnosing a physical/exterior injury.

Why not be extra cautious with your franchise player?

A reporter in the summer was saying he's a very selfish player and unless you play him with better players he's only out there for himself.

Many studies have shown that flying while concussed can exasperate symptoms and delay brain recovery.

Interesting here is a study on NHL concussions and flights.

Results 239 concussions occurred during the 3 study seasons of which 35 players were excluded for additional injuries or concussion lasted over the end of a season. 202/204 (99%) of NHL players with diagnosed concussions missed at least one game with a mean 9.2 games (SD +/- 9.6) missed. Those players that flew after suffering an mTBI missed 32.9% more games with: 10.5 (95% CI: 2.5–17.7) missed games and 26.5 days for those 99 NHL'ers (95% CI: 2.5–17.7) VS. 7.9 (95% CI: 0–16.5) games and 20.7 days for the 205 NHL'ers that did not fly; P<.01. Odds Ratio to miss games post concussion after air travel to no air travel: 3.8:1.

Discussion This initial report of an increased rate of recovery in terms of nearly 1/3 more games missed, for professional athletes flying commercial airlines due to likely increased concussion penumbra and lack of brain rest following mTBI. Future studies should evaluate standard 48–72 hour post mTBI brain rest, without any air flight to abate the decreased oxygen tension suffered during pressurized cabin flight.

Canucks need a tough guy to protect them from their medical staff.

I am not really sure what it is. I always thought he was a decently good goal scorer. He was excellent with Toews and Hossa back in the day.

Sign...doctor Nucker knows best. I have flown with concussions in the past, no impact. If he had swelling or an oxygen bubble? Well no, he wouldn’t be flying. Case by case Jr.

Again, if he’s out for 7-10 days then what’s the harm in leaving him with a team doctor in Florida for a couple of days just in case?

What’s there to gain by having him fly with the team the next day if he can’t play?

Demko’s symptoms worsened after flying despite getting cleared.

Professional doctors let Crosby play the next game where he got hit by Hedman along the boards after suffering a concussion against the Capitals the previous game.

He is still young.(25) Maybe it's an Evander Kane situation where he just needs to grow up a bit.

We all went over this last season, about having that player type in the line up. Some thought it was good and others thought he was useless and overpaid. Now all of a sudden he is needed and has to be in there. Pretty sure the people that thought he was useless and overpaid are the ones whining about the lack of push back right now.

Im ok with that kind of player if he can play. Dorsett could play but Id rather see the league take care of its players instead of bush league plays happening without penalty.

And the league seems to have no interest in protecting its stars in lieu of "old-time hockey".

Either way, the dirty stuff needs to go........

Answer me one question and I’ll drop this. What’s the benefit of flying him with the team instead of being extra cautious if he’s not playing anyway?

I see more downside than upside.

Not to mention the doctors’ job is just to clear the player, the GM can still choose to be extra cautious with his 19 year old franchise player during a season with zero chance of making the playoffs.

Never be able to take the childish stuff out. I'm sure you know 30 plus years olds that act like they are 15 still.

They want fighting out of the game because that has caused a lot of the concussions. Open ice blindside hitting is on it's way out. Matheson got embarrassed, bigger then EP. It's nothing new to the world. Smart nerd makes the big dumb jock look stupid, so big dumb jock gets physical with him.

Don't get me wrong, I was all over Nucker and others about jumping the gun but I doubt your doctor okayed a plane flight less than 24 hours after your head was hit. If you've had concussions you know that often the symptoms don't really show up for a couple days.
