Leafs have to lock up Matthews for 8yrs.
Work around that contract to fit Marner and Nylander. If anyone is going to get shorter smaller AAV contracts, it should be them and not Matthews.

At first i didn't want to trade Nylander but mostly because i didn't think they had anyone who could play on that top line with Matthews. Kappy has shown that he's capable.

I feel like if they trade Willy for a dman they'll get shafted on the deal. I'd prefer to get picks back and maybe a LW (25-28ish) who could bring some physicality to the bottom 6.

Even if Kapanen wasn't capable (which he is) the Leafs have 3 guys who are capable of making their linemates better than they really are so either way, Nylander could still get moved.
