These comments are hilarious. Talking about long suspensions and sending a message. That was a 2 for roughing if anything. It was a normal every day hockey play. Only difference was Pettersen is like 160lbs soaken wet and got manhandled. That's not a knock on pettersen just a reality. He'll fill out but what are people supposed to go easy on him because he's small? That being said I do hope the kid is okay. I don't wish injury on anyone.

It was a body slam. I played d all my life and petterson was off balance and he took advantage its easy to do if you want to, Matheson had a tough game getting beat constantly.

Also played my whole life as a defenseman. The can opener pin against the boards is standard practice as is the one arm shiver he gave him. Did he put more into because he was pissed yes. Did it look much more violent because of how slight Pettersen is yes.

Is gudbranson not in the lineup? If so I'm surprised he never did anything. Usually clean or dirty if a guy gets hit hard there's a reaction.

Edit: also lots of people are complaining about the hit. I read the comments before seeing it and was expecting the most disgusting dispicable thing you could imagine and then I seen it and the guy got pushed hard.

Gudbranson being in the lineup and NOT doing anything is the partial outrage by the fans. There was no reaction period.

People are dissecting the hit, and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. It was on the shoulder, not late, pettersson was against the boards, it was completely clean. People are mad about 1) the repaly shows that Mathesons stick ends up between petterssons legs, which gives him leverage and takes Petterssons feet out, and 2) the force of which Matheson drives Pettersson down towards the ice after a simple hit would have been sufficient. The hit shouldn't be in question IMO. Its the throw that doesn't really belong in the league.

I also think people who didn't watch the game, and only saw the hit, didn't see that Pettersson deked out Matheson on the same play, causing him to fall to the ice trying to defend him, and just before the hit, Matheson eyes does Petterson and gives him a jab, which looks to be in response to the deke.

5-10 game suspension coming up.

I did just watch it and no doubt he gets shoved down hard but let's not exaggerate and call it a body slam. People are freaking out because he's a skill guy, if it was tom Wilson ppl would be saying he got what he deserved and it wasn't that bad of a hit. Had he lifted peterrson up off his skates so that peterrson was in mid air and then slammed him to the ice then yes absolutely I would say call it a body slam. Peterrson got shoved.Hard.

Theres nothing wrong with the game. There's still good solid hard clean body checks and a scatter fight when it's called for. They're suspending guys for head shots and dirt like spears slew foots and knees like they should. They've eliminated the staged fights which really had no bearing on the game. Now if 90% of people in this thread has their way they'd turn the game into soccer.
