I feel both will be signed before July 1st. They are waiting for the season to be done with, let their play do the talking. Once the season is over the talks will begin and it'll be settled before July 1st. That's just my opinion.

One of my good friends is cousins with Marner and they hangout quite a bit. I'll try and get some insider scoop!

I can see them giving up the draft picks, but Matthews/Marner would have to want to go, which I don’t see and as you point out they would have to have the cap space which the teams that are contenders that either player would consider going to just wouldn’t have.

Leafs have about $30.2 million of cap space next year. If you consider that the increases that Marner and Matthews get will be about $18 million and Willie gets say $6.5, that will leave $5.7 million plus next years' increase (say $5 million) to the cap for a total of $10.7 milion to sign Kapanen, Johnsson, Oziganov and several entry level or less than $1 million dollar deals to fill out the roster. (Gardiner - he will get $6 to $7 million from some team that has cap room - he will be gone for sure IMO)

Gonna be tight as a bull's ass at fly time, but can be done. Leafs are digging in hard on Willie's contract for good reason.
