There will be no opportunity for offer sheets to either Marner or Matthews. I really don''t recall the "pain" that Babaschlong refered to - maybe in a twisted way it was about losing some talent to the (frank)en cap. The Marleau salary for next year is clearly an issue - but there is no chance IMO he is a Robidas Island candidate - so the pain will be losing Gardiner for nothing and maybe moving Nylander for less than he is worth.

The offers will be north of 14. Remember San Jose was willing to pay 13 for Tavares. Montreal and/or Arizona, and probably more, would pay 14 for him, and spend months in a perpetual state of champagne drunkeness if they got him.

Even at 14, I think the Leafs match. He is, simply, a true franchise player.

Marner may also be a target if he puts up big numbers. I suspect 10-11 will be his sheet, and the Leafs will match.

Therefore, You can count Gardiner, Hainsey, Nylander, and Marleau (if at all possible) will be gone.

I do have a feeling Matthews will be available for an offer sheet and other teams will be tempted. It's simply hard to imagine him not being able to demand 14m if these numbers continue. I don't think Marner signs an offer sheet anyway and there's no doubt Dubas will be willing to give him something in the 10-11m range over 8 years.

Marner would be far less likely than Matthews I think. I could see it happening but Marner wants to be a Leaf. I am not sure the same about Matthews??
