I think it’s pretty clear we need a solid dman more than we need Willie’s wizardry. I’m afraid if we sign him to 7M (or more?) we’re going to be in cap hell where we’ll have very little room to maneuver to improve the defence let alone lock up Matthews (12.5 minimum) and Marner (9?) whilst also carrying Tavares.
I love BillNy but I’m really starting to think that realistically he’s a complementary player who the Leafs should trade to bring in someone to fulfill a glaring need on the blue line.
Maybe my opinion is slightly coloured by him holding out (not a good look) but seriously folks, we need D! - mjones242
So you are in the trade an elite young offensive talent for any defensemen upgrade as we need it camp then. Who cares if we don’t get full value. Are you Chiarelli’s alternate?
There is no panic needed here. We do not have to make a trade and get pennies on the dollar here. |

Pretty sure he wasn't talking about "any" defensive upgrade....but if it's a specific one, sure. The Leafs do need a top pairing dman. If you can get a young top pairing d guy for Nylander, it makes a lot of sense. |

Nothing wrong with trading from area of strength to strengthen an area of weakness.
If it is Nylander for the right dman, it would be a good trade for the Leafs.
Again, I am not talking about just any potential top 4 guy, I am talking about the right top pairing dman - or no trade!
If you could grab a Provorov type for Nylander, you do it. |

Depends on the trade, obviously. Willy for a top 4 dman with no real expectation to ever become better than that is a bit of a bad deal.
But trading him for a top pairing guy (even if you have to add) could definitely be worth it.
This is all without factoring in cap complications. If Willy really is asking for more than we can afford, it doesn't matter if he's a good player, we have better more important players, that we need to prioritize over him within the next year. So trade him for the best value (cap wise) we can get to compliment the rest of the team we've got. |

Anyone else notice the puck was bouncing all over the ice last night? I assume the ice is garage there...
Also, Gardiner can't defend...
That is all |

Yeah that is something -- would not have thought that it would happen so infrequently. Thanks for posting. |

We shall beat them and Nylander will finally understand the futility of his contract holdout |

Morning guys.
So we beat a playoff team last night, and shy of a couple small timeframes of the Caps sustaining pressure in our D zone outplayed them for the majority of the game.
What's today's reason/excuse/haterade on why the Leafs aren't a good team?

Nylander for Bouchard, Puljujarvi and Lucic (2 million retained).
Nurse shouldn't interest the Leafs as another LHD. - Unholy_Goalie
Can't see the Oilers doing that trade.
Also, how does this help the Leafs now? If they are trading for a D man it's a roster ready top 4 player. Bouchard may one day be that guy but I don't think he is now. |

That is all kinds of bad. Bouchard, who's played all of 3 games this year, when we have Lilly and Sandy already as unproven prospects. Sure, Bouchard was picked earlier, but this doesn't really do anything for us now at all.
Pulled Pork has a ELC deal expiring and outside of having some size, I don't see him carrying Nylander's jockstrap.
Lucy is just bad now and a cap nightmare. Where would he even play in the lineup?

Couldnt agree more. We have dmen coming in lilegren, Sandin, Durzi, and Rasanen.
I'd only look to trade prospects like bracco, or maybe roster players like Brown, and Johnsson |

Leafs played their best game of the season so far against the toughest opponent to date. Depth players contributing. Good sign. |

Well you have to realize that they wouldn’t get more than a 4/5 I’m return. |

Yep. Par and Oz looked good...people need to give players like that a chance. It’s not easy adjusting at all. |

Unfortunately, I felt the sensation of foolishness quite recently, in fact. When I didn't draft Rielly in my fantasy league. - GreatGigInTheSky

I'm inclined to agree. Kadri and Rielly have incredible contracts, and that will keep them with this team. Gardiner is gone. Might be Marleau's last season. - BetterCallSaul
Marleau has a NMC and next season will be his last.
Gardiner will get 6 mil somewhere else, like JvR got his money in Philly.
Side note, remember when everyone was laughing at Burke for saying he'd grab Rielly even if he had the #1 pick instead of the 5th?
The other 4 players:
1. Nail Yakupov
2. Ryan Murray
3. Alex Galchenyuk
4. Griffin Reinhart
Dumba,Lindholm & Trouba got picked later, after Reilly
Not bad...decent draft year for Dmen. |
