Missed the 2nd (Fn work), what happened to Laughton?
- BiggE

Went in on a breakaway, tripped over Fleury and went into the boards extremely hard.

Stating that Simmonds doesn't bring anything at 5 on 5 is complete nonsense. Part of the big picture that some apparently refuse to look at is that Simmonds is still a very good player and looks to be healthy this season.
- MJL

His scoring rates at 5 on 5 over the past two seasons are in line with that of players in the bottom 25% of the league. So no. Not nonesense.

And how good is he going to be in 2,3 years? If we give him 6 years will we be in year 3 thinking it was a huge mistake? We still have to give extensions to TK, Provy, NoPa eventually. Part of having success in the cap era is having young players on cheap deals. People on here always complain that the flyers hand out long contracts to old players but doesn't seem to see that Simmonds could be the exact situation they complain about.

Finally, if SSB and others say they want to give simmer a 3 year deal or something then yeah that would be awesome for the flyers. But they don't. They say pay him whatever he wants. And to be quite frankly that's ridiculous. If Simmonds wants 6 x 7 or something like that than I truly believe it is in the flyers best interest to not give him that contract or one like it. Saying just pay the man is what bothers me. Simmonds is not the type of player to get a blank check.

Breakaway. Lost balance and crashed into the boards. Left and didn’t come back.

Didn’t seem to be a head injury so there’s that.

If Simmonds is willing to sign a 3 year deal, even with some overpayment, I’d keep him. Might even go 4 if the overpayment is slight. If he wants 5 years or more, see ya. It’s just not good business locking up a good, but still complementary player, for 5+ years at what will be age 31.

I made valid points to keep Simmonds and the best you can come up with to counter is, I’m obsessed and he’ll want the max is payment. Not one of those counter points by you sounds stupid to you?
- SuperSchennBros

You said the flyers pp is successful because of him. I gave evidence that is not the case and they can be and have been successful without him. I make valid points as to why they shouldn't sign him and you can't counter them.

Thank you. It's ridiculous that some people here just want to give him a blank check. There are other factors to consider.

Putt Simmonds with a really good play making center that he can form chemistry with and I better his 5 on 5 scoring rate goes up. Are you actually watching him play? He's been very good and in his career he's been a solid scorer at 5 on 5. It's complete nonsense that Simmonds is not good at 5 on 5. Same crap was said about Schenn.

What's ridiculous is that some, yourself included want to create their own reality and diminish Simmonds from the actual player he is and has been in his career.

I’d like to save the big contracts for guys who have more puck skill overall. I’ll leave it there. He’s a one trick pony. Damn good at it though.

Again, nonsense. Find me a post where I said the words “Pay him whatever he wants”. You said He’ll probably want the max, I said you’re stupid for that because he’s not a max worthy player. I said pay him, as in extend him.

Honestly, you’re making stuff up.

I said part of why the PP is so good is his work down low. He’s second to OV in PP goals since coming to Philly!!

What I’m saying is in print and somehow you are mixing and twisting words. How do you even do this???

This is absurd. I'm not diminishing Simmonds at all. I said mutliple times he's a great player. I just don't think it is in the flyers best interest to sign him to a new contract. Those are two very different things. He's had an awesome career and been great for the flyers. But that doesn't mean that the flyers need to just reisgn him. Don't be dense

Even Weise has a pulse today. I guess driving him slowly by the Elmer’s plant had the desired effect.

One thing I’ll throw out there. Over the last couple seasons the Flyers young players have taken a lot of punishment.

Weise tried a bit just there but I’d like to see this team respond a bit more when they are obviously targeted.

Time and place obviously but too often they simply skate away imo.
