Idk, if the leafs decide they need to move a big piece for D the guy is Nylander. Him being on a great deal makes him even more valuable, taking less to play for the leafs just to be traded in a year or so would be not ideal for him. I can see why they’d worry about that. Nylanders camp knows Matthews Marner JT aren’t going anywhere and as good as kadri is he’s not as valuable as Nylander in a deal.

Not at all....if he gets traded to Ottawa next year then he signed 6x6 to play for a horrible team and a team he doesn’t want to play for.

If he signs for what he’s worth around the league then at least he is where he wants in those terms.

It makes a lot of sense. It’s happened many times before where someone has been traded after signing a contract.

The only way to fix that is to sign a two year deal so if he is traded at least he can set up a new contract based on where he is...obviously neither side wants that so when you actually think about it logically it’s makes a lot of sense why a deal hasn’t been reached. This could go on for another month I would not be surprised

He's not worth 8 around the league if that's what he's asking for. He's worth the same as Ehlers and Pasternak around the league. Maybe even less.

It's a league rule, not a Leaf stance, that is preventing him from getting a ntc. Shouldn't hold the team hostage over something they cant control. Should have put up 80 points last year if he wanted 8 million. He didn't.

I'm ready for this to be over. Trade him and move on.

I agree with this. Nylander being on a reasonable long term deal will make him much more valuable in a trade scenerio. The cap crunch will start next season not this season, when Gardiner is UFA, Marleau is making nearly $7m and Matthews and Marner get paid. A bridge deal for 2 years makes sense and then the Leafs can make room. Nylander can fit - if that is what management wants.
