They were wrestling he got manhandled . Can I suggest Ice Capades ? They don't have contact.
- VANTEL

So just so we are clear. I agree hes weak, agree he falls down too much, agree he needs to get tougher, agreed the hit was clean and not late, and you miss all of that and suggest that i dislike contact because i dont care for the throw?

You are right Pettersson needs to get stronger and tougher. Just like the opposition needs to know it's going to be a tough night when they do something cheap... even a little and it results in a young star player getting hurt.

He wrestled him . EP lost . He didn't give him a pile driver or an elbow to the head.

Roussel says there will be retribution

I guess he should find a new sport to play too

Green, a guy who’s played hundreds of games and coached plenty of games called it a dirty play, looks like he should become a curling coach

It is not Mathesons fault that EP has the strength of a girl guide.

You're right I will let all you guys whine about a clean hit . Enjoy. Wallow in the misery .

I am going to go to bed and yes I did enjoy beating a team we were suppose to lose against.Goodnight Gentlemen.

Travis Green: "it was a dirty play. You can't throw a vulnerable player down to the ice after you've made your take out."

As Booner said you need to let the opposition know it will be a tough night if you hurt one of our guys. I believe that is the opposite of ice capades

I enjoy a difference of opinion with substance, no reason to deal in absolutes or get off topic. We feel differently, and i wouldnt debate it with you if i didnt want to hear your angle of it.

"More Benning re Gudbranson: “I don’t know if Elias Pettersson will be ready when he comes to training camp next year. But we want our young players to be able to play and develop without worrying about getting picked on. We need to have guys who will stand up for them.”
- Codes1087

A guy at HF had a perfect response to this:

"Personally it's not so much that I want a violent response here as it is just a lack of identity and direction of the team. Isn't this why we brought in guys like Gudbranson, Schaller, Roussel? The front office seems to like to talk about toughness and accountability when they bring these guys in, then an in-game situation that calls for it actually happens... and we get nothing, coach tells the players to stand down and go for the win. Why even bother having these guys then?"

Seems like there's a disconnect between what Benning wants and what Green wants...

Yah there is no way matheson gets suspended. Roughing penalty at best, but even then the refs didnt deem it that bad. Still think its a bit malicious knowing matheson was pissed that pettersson embarassed him moments earlier. Make the hit, but the throw was excessive imo
- Codes1087

I think if EP doesn’t get hurt no one is talking about it ...I agree tho Matheson was probably embarrassed that a rookie made him look bad

Exactly. All the stuff about character and a safe environment is garbage.

The play will be discussed for a while i think. Its starting to make headlines on a leaf driven program like tsn, so imagine we get tons of coverage on it tom.

99% of all hockey hits or plays dont get talked about if the player doesnt get hurt though, its when they do that they fall under the microscope, get dissected, and people form opinions.

You stick up for them on big hits and cheap shots not when he gets out muscled. You did notice no penalty right?
- VANTEL

There's no list of why you should or shouldn't stick up for a teammate, if you feel like it was unjust or you just want to send a message, you go punch the guy in the mouth.

I truly believe the lack of response has fans more mad than the throw itself. Any fan claiming penalty for the hit is pretty dumb. The throw itself is questionable, and if the refs decided to give a roughing or unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for it, i wouldnt have been surprised, but not getting a call doesnt surprise me either. It was the lack of push, after so many statements from the players themselves and management about protecting young players and all the crap about not taking liberties that i think people are frustrated about.

It doesn't matter if the hit was legal or illegal or if Pettersson needs to get stronger or not, what matters is you need to have a pack mentality and stick up for one another for any reason.

Until they have that, they're not a team, they're just a bunch of individuals playing the game. Did you see Winnipeg the other day stick up for their guy, it was a tad late but they said fack that, you can't do that to our guy. Even Ehlers was fighting.

Im not disagreeing with that. I agree, its the lack of action taking by the players after the fact that is frustrating. We know roussel, gudbranson, schaller, virtanen, they are all capable of it. It sucks to hear them spout off to the media after that they all think its dirty and there will be retribution, but way after the fact.

People often complain about players having to answer the bell after big hits.

With that said, I think it should have been a roughing penalty for the body slam.

I also think someone should have challenged the fella, based solely on standing up for the rookie.
Like Miller did for Stetcher.
Not because it's the dirtiest hit ever, but just to show the kid the team has his back and to send a message to other teams.

I agree it was a missed opportunity.

It just shows Pettersson they've got his back and it shows other teams you can't just roughhouse our best player. It's not about hurting Matheson or the end result of a pushback, it's simply about having a pushback.
