Matthews is surrounded by elite players. 3 good to great centers. This opens it up for leafs because tops lines can't go against all the leafs lines. Mcdavid due to incompetence of chia has to carry most of the load and he still has more points than Matthews. Mcdavid is the best player in the league.

I agree and disagree with you, Leafs have a huge fan base and reality is some have said these things and other idiotic things. BUT!!! this happen with every fan base!!! What smart fans realize is that stupid comments on any fan base are usually made by a minority of idiots.

How many times have I read on a Leafs thread that Jets fans think Laine is better than Mathews? too many! when in reality, yes, we probably have a small, very small few who have said this. BUT most Jets fans were just happy we got Laine at 2 and know full well we would have jumped all over Mathews had we won the lottery.

I agree completely. Every fan base has a few who go overboard and on these boards are very vocal about it. Most only partially drink the cool aid. With “Leaf nation” it gets magnified by the huge volume of Leaf fans, the torontocentric media, and the hatred of anything Toronto from some areas of the country (looking at you Vancouver - which happens to be a great city despite its fan base). I was pointing out just what you are, that most fans aren’t as crazy and unrealistic as they get labelled.

Ek has it exactly backwards. Matthews deserves less than mcdavid but will get paid more, maybe even considerably more.
