The reality is the leafs and their fans get a disproportionate amount of hate and it isn't even close. We were ridiculed and laughed at when we sucked and now that we are good the hate has only increased.

Matthews may or may not be quite as great as McDavid but you know what who cares, he will still be an elite superstar. Get Nylander signed and trade Kadri and Gardiner for a really good D-man....Nylander can then get his center job

The leafs have great depth on cheap contracts: Kapanen, Brown, Hyman, Dermott, Liligren, Sandin... even Kadri and Reilly to an extent for what they provide. Pair that with a few discount veterans who want a chance to win and the Leafs will be just fine.

No. They will be fine. They will trade players for even better players at lower cap hits and none of their prospects will bust.

you just don't get it...it's not the leafs everybody hates it's the fans.

Ohh trust me buddy...I get it! Leaf fans are the stupidest fans on the face of the Earth! Our hockey knowledge will never measure up to the superb hockey knowledge of the fans of the 30 other teams out there! Yes, there's a lot of us out there that get overexcited. But when you've been a doormat for years and you finally see some promise, it's hard not to get excited. Unfortunately there some of us fans that regularly talk smack when they shouldn't but that's a case for most teams fans.
Leafs media always continue to try and stir the pot for fan reactions.
Right now I don't really give a poop if McDavid is better than Matthews or vice versa! Two great players with different playing styles. Nothing I'll ever lose sleep over like some people seem to be doing!
