I know we're only a week into the season, but if Andersen's save percentage doesn't exceed .900%, the Leafs aren't going to win a Stanley Cup. Matthews and Tavares can score over 100 points each, and it won't matter. Right now, it's at .893%.

I guess you don't know about Anderson and his history of October hockey.

As much as Leafs fans annoy the h3ll out of the rest of us, it's nice to see the team finally winning. They've put together a great team, with great young dynamic players that are also insulated by experienced professional vets. Matthews is having a stellar year so far, but he is skating with some really good players up and down the lineup.

Now...

Matthews is nowhere near the same level as McDavid. Just let yourself imagine for a moment McDavid on the Leafs roster...

Now imagine Matthews trying to lead the dysfunctional Edmonton Oilers.

They're not even in the same universe as players...just get over it and enjoy the Leafs' ride this year (it could be a long ride)
!

I'll agree that Matthews is not as good as McDavid, but "not in the same universe"?
Uh, I think that is going a bit too far.

Matthews is a powerplay specialist. He is one of the best. However, he is not the guy you want on the ice in all situations, and is a minus after playing the three worst teams in the league so lets not get carried away. He will have 45 goals and 35 assists, McD will have 45 goals and 70 assists with a horrible supporting cast. McD is the indisputable #1 player in the league. Compare Matthews with Stamkos please (0.91 ppg with good linemates over the past 2 seasons), but not McD's 1.27 ppg with lucic being his "star" winger.

Starting to think I got goated into this rediculas click bait

So wrong.

Do you watch Leafs games?

Haters have a hard time admitting Leafs have a superstar talent on their hands.

Not the same class as McDavid, but there are parts of his game that are better than Connor.

They are very different players.

McDavid looks sort of like a terrifying combination of Gretzky + Bure

Matthews, may be like Beliveau + Bossy/Hull

I think the blog title says it all. Time to admit.... like it's been some sort of lie that others can't bring themselves to saying out in the open

The hate comes from all the deflecting to the other teams

Will Matthews sustain that 53% shooting?

- Feds91Stammer

Nope- but his career is something like 15% so far.. and it increased from year 1 to year 2.

Looks like he’s been working on his shot a lot this summer, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s pretty up there again.

He averages just over 3 shots per game, at 17%, and assuming a healthy season, that’s another 40 goals from this point on, assuming it drops now.

The guy said there isnt a team that cant match that fire power and in the most recent season there is the exact opposite of that, a team did match that fire power.

Jost just joined the top PP thats why I added him there even though he had 20 points as a rookie. Despite Jost rookie production, your fire power is matched in actual stats and not well I think My teams players are better than yours type of analysis.

I am not saying my teams PP guys are better than yours...thats not the point, is just this clown needs to take a look around and put some numbers to his claims...despite as impressive of talent the Leafs have on the PP, its not an outlier and a cut above other teams top production. Quickly looking up the Jets PP unit Laine, Connor, Buff, Wheeler, and scheifele, they had...you guess it 323 points combined last year

- DDM-Coga

Last year’s 1PP was JVR-Bozak-Marner-Kadri-Gardiner

This year it’s Matthews-Tavares-Marner-Kadri-Rielly

That’s slightly different.

I'm calling B.S. on this one.

How could you possibly have Bozak on your first PP and Matthews on your second? It makes no sense. Are you going to try to tell us Komarov was on the PP too?

So quit lying, Glucksie.

Matthews is good, but no McJesus or Crosby, I would say he is as good as MacKinnon but does not have that killer spirit yet. Give him time to grow as we witnessed in last years playoffs he has a long way to go. And yes most fan bases hate the leafs and want to see them continue to s$*t the bed come playoffs if they make it that far.
