Have you noticed how bad Sanheim has played outside of PP2? - ClaudeFather
I have. But I've also noticed some great flashes of the player he will soon be. Just last night he gathered a pinballing puck in our slot, controlled it, skated it out of trouble by a yard or so, and banked a pass through the trapezoid to a wide open winger for the easy out. I've seen him join rushes and be in good spots offensively. I've seen him consistently make good decisions on when to shoot from the point vs look for a pass vs dump it in the corner. I've seen him hit a few stretch passes and good quick outlet passes. I've seen him move his feet and stick with players on the Avs and LV, two of the faster teams in the league.
But yes, I've also seen the 22 year old out of position a few times on D in his what? 30th NHL game of his career? And yes, he's fallen twice. Not as much as Lehtera, and definitely not as much as AMac slides himself out of the play defending oddman rushes.
I'll get on AMac because he's bad and always will be bad. I'll clearly excuse a young Sanhiem for defensive miscues because he will not always be bad.

The PK sucks, just as it has the last few years under this coach. How can anyone possibly see that coming? Hextall must feel blindsided. - PLindbergh31
Well he did say he was targeting a PK forward in the off season so you can feel safe that it's been taken care of. Relax. Let the goals flow through you.

You can't really make excuses for the coaches or the core anymore. They all have been here long enough and all seem to fall into their same old issues year after year.
Im not going to pretend like I know what the answer is but I know waiting on prospects has resulted in no playoff series wins in six years now.
Hopefully this is the year they finally take the next step.

The Hak hate is strong there. It’s a beautiful thing. Do you notice some of the angst starting toward Hextall? Interesting to see, and can’t say it isn’t unwarranted.

If Hagg was playing as bad as Sanheim right now people would have his head on a stick. Hagg has had a solid start while Andy Mac Sanheim, and Provorov need to get their sh!t together.

Notwithstanding, Laughton has taken great steps forward this season. Offensive confidence is at a respectable level and he's matured as a PKer too imo. Last night he was hungry for a puck in the corner (I know we're not allowed to do that. Gotta stay in the box), beeline to it, beat 2 Sens there, and backhanded it between the points. Decisive, assertive, and executed. It was refreshing. Hope he keeps it up.

Did I stutter?
Sanheim and Provorov will both be great. I will not rail on them for every little mistake because I understand that young defenseman take some time to groom, even in their 3rd year like Provorov. He is still not as good as he will be imo.
Speaking of Hagg and AMac
EDIT: Next you will say "well Hagg is young too" and to that I just laugh because we all know Hagg will not be great and never had the potential to be. Hardly has/had the potential to be good. Potential to be useful as a 5-6? Sure, if he figures out when to go for hits and develops a semi-reliable defensive game.

I think he'll come around but there is always the chance he will be AMAC 2.0 - dragonoffrost
He’s got more puck skill than Mac could ever dream of. The kid needs to figure out how to win some more of the battles and defensive coverage. Nothing outside of the norm for a young player. Hagg has improved and it’s great to see.
MacDonald is a used condom. (frank) him and their obsession with making him a fixture of the club. Myers should be playing in his spot.

Sanheim is a kid. That has been spanked and had his ice time cut nearly every mistake he has made. He’s played iffy at times but again, he’s a young player that needs the opportunity to grow and develop.
I’m going to throw a hot take out there and say Prov may be hurt.

Every little mistake? The kid has been horrible lmao. You send one bad play of Hagg and think you are right, you are a fool. Send some GIFs of Sanheims good plays this season... I'll wait. Hagg has been solid and already has a couple goals. I like Sanheim but he needs to pick it up.

I love how everyone on here acts like if you say one bad thing you are attacking the kids potential. He has been bad and needs to play better and if you can't see that stop watching hockey. Provy, i agree might be hurt.

No its personnel Lappy sucks. PK has sucked ever since he started running it. He was a great PKer himself but that doesnt translate to teaching. - xShoot4WarAmpsx

First goal of the Flyers season and the 2nd and 3rd goals in Ottawa just off the top of my head. Some of the defensive miscues are obvious, and he hasn't actually scored like Hagg has, so of course he's playing like poop right? No sir. Notice the first guy to touch the puck for the Flyers on both of these goals.
Made several aggressive neutral zone plays too. The entire team is playing terrible defense right now, but Sanheim has been fine.

The Flyers team structure in the defensive zone has been dysfunctional to put it kindly. Not exactly the environment to assess the play of a young defenseman.
