The time to do that was 3 or 4 years ago. That's how you do a proper and effective rebuild.Toronto will be the team to beat over the next 5 years or so because they did the rebuild right. Burn it down all the way and lay a new foundation. Trying to compete while you are rebuilding leads to years of frustration and mediocrity... My fear is we will be right back at ground zero in 5 years with a new GM.

Toronto got lucky by getting the #1 pick in 2016. If they picked 4th their rebuild would look a lot less effective.

Majority of fans are clueless. The 2 on 1 goal was not a soft goal.
- MJL

The 5 hole one? That was a little soft. So was the 2nd one. Wasn't a laser so could have done better with the rebound.

They weren't soft serve ice cream soft but maybe soft shell taco soft.

I don't know Puljujarvi may flirt with 20 goals this season, assuming he plays.

Well, again, I don't want a Keenan type, because if you are constantly berating players, it just becomes overbearing. I'm saying I want a coach who isn't afraid to rip his players in the middle of a game when it's really necessary, like last night.

As MJL pointed out, since I'm not at most games, I can't say whether or not he does this often.

Actually the correct questions are as follows.

What is Bobby Ryan's dream?
Where did you hear about it?

I don't care about Hak's lak of emotion. I do care that he sits on his timeouts instead of using them when the team is clearly floundering.

Matthews had 40 as a rookie, 34 in 62 games in his 2nd year and has 7 already this season. He's at a whole different level, and I doubt Tavares goes to Toronto without the luxury of being able to play with him.

Goalie has to anticipate a cross ice pass on a 2 on 1. Sometimes you have to give a goal scorer credit.

Well, I learned last night that we need Brind'Amour as coach. He commands and gets respect.

This is problematic, and it stems from leadership, and that includes players like Giroux and Simmonds. It seems like, if they get down early, they just accept defeat. Thinking back to even the Richards era, the team would usually get pissed and come out and at least take a pound of flesh and try to turn the game. But this team just kinda goes through the motions sometimes after they're down.
- jmatchett383

Call me crazy, but I don't care if they don't run around hitting people after they start losing.

I didn't see a team that gave up or went through the motions completely. They made efforts to try to get back in it but they were too few and far between. They had chances, but never finished. They also never cleaned up what got them into the situation in the first place, which exacerbated the problem. They weren't going to win the game playing with the structure and team defense they attempted, but to me it wasn't like they saw 2-0 and just said (frank) we lose.

I honestly think the move is to maybe move a core player like Voracek. You can make a hockey trade that might not bring someone as dynamic but maybe provide more of a well rounded game.

Not on that play he doesn't. The way Provorov played it was to give Elliott the shot. Provorov took the pass away.

I think the fact that it was a changeup was the reason for the rebound.

Trade the best players, and keep the hopeless coach.

Great strategy.

I don't mean pull a 1975 style pound of flesh, I'm just talking about not making things easy for the other team. And I didn't watch the 2nd/3rd last night, I was talking in general.

The worst cases were games 3 and 4 last year against Pittsburgh. The came out in the first 5 minutes all fired up and then, after they got down, were lifeless drifters. In the playoffs, at home, against your top division rival. Game 4, especially, was embarrassing.

Again, it doesn't happen all of the time, and sometimes you can't bring your A-game every night. But to me, there are too many instances where this team, as a whole, lacks the ability to take a punch to the gut and come back in-game.

I guess.

As I posted earlier I just feel other teams get the saves they need at those times and the Flyers don't.

This goes on constantly. It's a mistake for anyone to think they know how a coach reacts behind the bench from the brief glimpses we get on TV
- MJL

I sat directly behind the bench.. He was animated for a solid 34 seconds total. Then he went right back to coach Wolf Eyes.

yeah, that was silly. When you are down 2-0, 3-0, its really doubtful a challenge is going to make much of a difference anyway.

Playoffs is a bit different because you keep playing the same team. They won game 5 though and should've won game 6

That is true. However, as a fan and paying customer, the complete lack of effort they had for 50+ minutes of Game 4 was 100% unacceptable.

I don't care if the Flyers lose because the other team is better. It's when they don't give an honest effort when I have a problem. Whether or not that was the case over the final 40 minutes of last night, I can't say. But it seems, to me, that it happens a bit too often whenever they face in-game adversity.

Provorov should be one of the leaders and setting an example with his play. He hasn't played up to his potential and, thus he should be traded.
