Those definitely are not the kids you want to send down. I agree. But how do we address the lack of compete from our top guys?
Hak wouldnt have the balls to do something like this anyway so its pipe dreaming.. I know....

I can 100% agree witht he first line and I can 100% disagree with the second line.

How can it feel like the same team since 2014 when we didnt have Provy, TK, Patrick, Ghost (he did play 2 games).

Its 3 games in last at least go 10 before the Team Negative wins out.

ALl that being said, they need to come out hard and destroy the Sens tonight..If that doesnt happen then the 10 games above drops to 5 and some things need to change.

- opeth_pa

Grand scheme of things, this team isn't closer to contending then they were 4 or 5 seasons ago.

Sure players come and go, and some young guys make an impact. But overall do you see big strides in this team since their last playoff round win?

You can only carry 23 players on the active roster. In order to "call up some AHL guys" you need to waive players on the active roster. And yes, we could send guys like Sanheim, Lindblom, and Vorobyov down without waivers, but I don't think they're the players you'd prefer to send down.

It's not about one-way or two-way contracts, it's about roster limits and waiver status.

I'd demote Voracek to the 3rd line. Not entirely based on his play (he can be much better) but more of a slight against 'untouchable' stars/veterans of the team. It's time to separate Gostisbehere and Provorov. MacDonald is the logical choice to pair with Provorov. It's not ideal but it'll have to do until Myers is up or if Sanheim steps up in the coming weeks and months. The best forwards to me last night from the Flyers were Raffl and Laughton. The Flyers are not in sync at all. Vorobyev looks to be actually too skilled and advanced for the players he's out on the ice with. He's making passes that players aren't even comprehending right now, so naturally I'm sure it'll be him sent to the Cote suite or waived first.

You must have a short memory.

I'll never forget what those teams looked like w/ Grossmann, Schenn, Vinny, etc trying to get the puck back, much less exit the zone. Berube was horrible. Rosehill and Rinaldo were still on the team.

Team now is still a WIP, but they are light years from where they were under Berube/Homer. (on and off the ice)

But different coaches have different styles and systems. I feel like hak isnt the best choice for what our guys bring to this team. Maybe they have already decided they dont like hak and are giving up on him and his system?
Hak, to me, takes away the creativity and real talent of these kids. I like the structure he brings to development of the kids but he limits their raw skills. I could be wrong and it's just my viewpoint. But then again roo and coots had career years last year so I dont really know what the (frank) is happening but we have been getting lit up and our D somehow looks even worse than it did last season.
I know its early and I'm not on team negativity but ite perplexing to watch. You never know which team is going to show up for a game. Its been this way for years though

Wait, did I blame Elliot for last night? If so, I take that back..

He did make a handful of big saves, but the two he ABSOLUTELY needed to make he didnt.. and everything spiraled from there.

- jak521

I would say it spiraled from the poor team defense and bad decision making of the skaters in front of him first.

So we should assume that the coach was only animated for 30 seconds and otherwise wasn't for the remainder of the game during an 8-2 shellacking?
- MJL

Whatever. The point being made was that he did not appear very animated for a guy coaching a team in that situation. Jak was just reporting his observations. I have no problem accepting that for what it was. I don't pay a ton of attention to who said what here, but I'm pretty sure jak is not one of the posters prone to extreme exageration.

One thing and I’m not going to jump into your debate.

The Jones quote regarding Hak being animated happened after the 2nd or 3rd goal. It was not said after the game nor was it said about his demeanour for the evening.

Carry on. Thanks for your observations from the rink itself.

- flyer_nutter

Was anything said at all about Hakstol's
demeanor for the entire game or should we just assume what it was?

What was the reason for this whole Gritty mascot thing? It feels like the rest of America is basically clowning Philadelphia and the Flyers for this creepy mascot public relations push. It wasn't needed at all in my opinion and the silly plush shark stuff yesterday serves no purpose to me at all. They're turning the game into a WWF show. Are they trying to maximize corporate boxes or something? I mean Comcast/NBC/NHL is basically one giant corporation now. Everyone's drinking the cool-aid.

I don’t know what the master plan is, but I would love to know exactly what it would take for this HC or Lappy to eventually get the can. Missing the playoffs? Another 10 game losing streak? Hextall loves his boys, and he can sink with them if he chooses to.
- flyer_nutter

So the team is sinking after one lousy game? Last season the team improved and made the playoffs. I know last night has you in your glory but need to make your statements at least somewhat credible.

Boston got embarrassed and shut out 7-0 against the Capitals in game 1. Does anyone think that Boston isn't going to get their game together and not make the playoffs?

I mean honestly it looked like it. The effort was flat out non existent at times. If I was Elliott I might have punched on of my teammates.

and progress will be real, in that it will have to come from younger players maturing and playing a larger role instead of hoping michael del zotto has a good year again

Because I would rather revisit the off season right now...

Defensive Pairings

Provy - Hägg
Ghost - Gudas
Sanheim - AMac

X - Folin

Forward Lines

G - Coots - Voracek
Lindblom - Vorobyev - TK
Laughton - Patrick - Simmonds
Raffl - Weal - Weise

X-Lehtera
IR - JVR, Knight

Think Weise may be reassigned as soon as Knight is back. Aube-Kubel or Twarynski could be called up at some point.

I vote we don't blow poop up and hold on to Hak through the end of the year. Word out of Chicago is that Joel Quenneville is on the outs after this season regardless of how well the Hawks finish.

I am not sure why I think Hexy would consider someone like Quenneville who is a proven winner. Something tells me we would pass on him. I also love Alain Vigneault who, I believe, is still unemployed.

It's a B.S. point from a source that wasn't in position to make. It's a tired and stupid narrative

Shattenkirk going to be a healthy scratch.
Why can't our coach grow a pair?
