^THIS!!!

Last season was the first season in a long time I didn't have a complaint about goaltending or fear at the start of any game.

Not sure WTF happened with the McIll decision but we all knew Sparks sucked in the NHL last year. He is an AHL goalie. Just like some players light it up in the A but not the N, Sparks is that for goaltenders. Get McIll back and Sparks can (frank) off.

Should be more like 17GF and 12-13 GA right now. (frank)ing stupid Dubas!

- underhill14

Sparks never played in the NHL last year. The year he did we were the worst team in the league, purposely losing to tank for Matthews. Which was a huge success.

Give the guy time to adapt to NHL style play and shots. I'm sure he'll be good enough for a game here and there moving forward.

He has one of the best forward groups in the NHL to practice against day in and day out which helps too.

People need to chill out. Freddy hasn't done much better this year and no one throws his name around like he can't stop a puck.

Fan590 at noon, they were speculating that there is a very good chance he is traded even if he signs. It is certainly plausible, and it would make it understandable if part of the holdout is around a ntc.

Nylander cant get a NTC while he is on RFA years I believe

Maybe you and I see things differently when it comes to goalie potential.

Sparks is not good enough to sit cold on a bench and play 20 games a year. Sparks is not mentally stable enough to be a back up NHL goalie. Sparks has bad rebound control issues and moves around way too much in the crease...............and the list goes on.

There was zero reason to get rid of McIll or Pickard over Sparks. None. They are both better suited for the team needs right now.

We don't need to train a goalie with the weak-ish defense we have right now. We need a legit goalie until we fix our defense.

Sparks is not that....he may become that....but he is not that now. (My opinion is he will never be good enough for the NHL.)

I think that is exactly the case. Dubas holds the cards on this one. He just need to smile, and wait. If Nylander is so stupid that he decides to take it past Dec. 1, when literally nobody agrees he is worth what he is asking, then it only hurts his own career. There is literally zero motivation for the Leafs to cave at all at this point. This is especially true when the concern is not offense, it is the defensemen, and the team commitment to defense, and the lack of physicality throughout the lineup. Nylander doesn't address any of these things.

At this point he might be holding out for a NTC

Hate to break it to you, but they don't get much more legit than Freddy..

I think he finished 4th in vezina voting. Theres only about 10-12 actual legit #1's and Freddy is one. Be thankful for that because we went a decade without that luxury.

So which column here is McDavid?

Does the lack of a NMC in the first 5 years mean that the CBA prohibited that?

Seems that way. NMC kicks in in his 7th year in the league when he would have reached UFA status

Thanks!

Nylander is not in a good position. I am sure the Leafs would love to pay him, but it doesn't take a genius to pull up a spreadsheet and see the cap problems coming up and he is the odd man out.

Oh sorry, I totally agree. Freddy is the best goalie we've had forever. Absolutely legit.

Our conversation was about the back up. I think Sparks will never be a good NHL goalie and wish we would have kept McIll or Pickard.

Andersen is the best goalie since Belfour.

Should have kept Pickard. He had the best mix of future potential and proven NHL experience. McElhinney was old and coming off a career year. He'll come back down to Earth eventually. Probably should have moved him way before training camp, if it was possible.

Sparks has potential, he just needs time to figure it out. Unfortunately, that could mean Andersen being overworked again as Sparks may lose the trust of Babcock.

That being said, if Sparks really sucks, he can be sent down and nobody will claim him and the Leafs can acquire a veteran back-up who can give Andersen some rest. Unfortunately, that'll cost a draft pick instead of just doing it for free with a UFA.
