I did not check out his TOI, but Babs is dumb for giving Kadri less minutes in the first 3 games than last season. Forget about giving a 4th line C 9-10 minutes. At the very least give Kadri what he got last season.
- RogerRoeper

The biggest thing holding Kadri back is his wingers. I like Connor Brown's defensive game but he can't be the second best winger on a line. Leivo hasn't done anything in that role, and the Lindholm experiment last night was a joke. Let's see if he has any chemistry with Ennis? If not, let's get someone up who does.

Third game in four nights and we beat a good team on the road. When Andersen gets past his October malaise I don’t think we lose too many this year.

Sorry UG

I think Kadri's issue right now, is that he doesn't have a specific role like he did the past two years.
not the shutdown guy anymore, doesn't get the tough matchups.
not the focal point on the powerplay either.
Also, he is not playing with Marner

You’re right. Nothing worse than piling up wins the wrong way.

Sign him to a 4 year deal, trade him next season if....IF kap proves to be an ok replacement.
As of now its too early to even suggest that kap is.

- Fakepartofme

Ya that would be the best move if they could do it. Get him under contract for a decent amount and then he has more value if you decide you need to go in a different direction with how they are allocating cap.

I think they have to anyway. The cap simply doesn't work keeping all 4 of them, especially not in a couple years when Rielly will be due for a raise, as will Kadri at some point.

Based on their torrid start and rest-of-season projections from my model, here are some end-of-season projections for some key Leafs

Auston Matthews: 55-42-97
Mitch Marner: 28-58-86
John Tavares: 39-39-78
Morgan Rielly: 12-50-62

Makes me wonder if he wants too much on a long term deal and won't take a bridge contract without a no-trade clause, messing up the Leafs ability to trade him for help on "D".

If he doesn't get injured along the way, I think that's a possibility yes.

Nylander, his dad and his agent are the only 3 people in the entire world that think he is worth $8M per season.

I'm not so sure. When was the last time someone had 100 goals in a season?

If he does, he is easily getting McDavid money.

I think that is exactly the case. Dubas holds the cards on this one. He just need to smile, and wait. If Nylander is so stupid that he decides to take it past Dec. 1, when literally nobody agrees he is worth what he is asking, then it only hurts his own career. There is literally zero motivation for the Leafs to cave at all at this point. This is especially true when the concern is not offense, it is the defensemen, and the team commitment to defense, and the lack of physicality throughout the lineup. Nylander doesn't address any of these things.

At this point he might be holding out for a NTC

Without looking, I'd say it was Mario Lemieux?

No wait.... no one ever scored 100 goals.

It's a unique situation..

Nylander on a handful of teams would be one of their top 2 players and no one would blink if he got $8M per season. Here, he is the 4th or 5th best forward (depending on how you feel about Kadri), so $8M is way too much money for him.

Although some teams would pay $8m it is still an over payment based on comparables

I'm guessing that considering how things are going right now, if he signs, he gets put on the 3rd line with Kadri until Kapanen hits a wall. No one is going to pay that much for a guy on their 3rd line. Whether or not he deserves to be there...

The Pens paid Kessel that to be on their 3rd for a season.

Well he needs to give enough ice time to Tavares and Matthews, who are having a ridiculous start to their season.

I think it was an obvious possibility to see the third line being used a little less with two top centres on the team.

- Scabeh

Why have the 4th line eat into his minutes though? That is the issue, not Matthews and Tavares.

So, could we have 2 people in the Rocket Richard race and 3 in the Art Ross race??

I know it's early, but I don't these guys slowing down alot.

And maybe Rielly will eclipse his career high in points? heck...he's 20% there after 4 games...

Unless Rielly gets hurt, I doubt there's a chance he does not havea career offensive season.
