8-2 Sharks.

2 assists, +2, 4 hits.

What is your take on the Nykander situation?

Also a guy at work today told me they'd trade Kadri for the defense (this guy has some odd takes on hockey) anyway let's presume they did make this trade in the off season. Would anyone look to sign spezza for a year or two for 3rd line center?

Can we do this for the rest of the year?

Marleau Matthews Kapanen
Hyman Tavares Marner
Johnsson Kadri Nylander
Leivo Gauthier Brown

Dermott Rielly
Gardiner Zaitsev
Hainsey Oz/Holl

- gravyface

This may sound crazy, but I would switch marner and nylander.

Marner plays well with every line, and him and kadri have great chemistry. It would get kadris confidence going.

Put nylander with Tavares, and I think they would be great together too.

Crazy how one summer can make such a difference at that age for some players.

Kapanen has wheels and just has to dig out some pucks to Matthews, but he was a PPG player at age 20 in the AHL, so he's not out of his element here.

I don't see why this isn't unsustainable playing with one of the best players in the world (and no slouch in Marleau either, who really just needs to play a safe straight ahead game to be effect at his age).

- gravyface

Because people hate change or we are all just leafs fans for too many years and having another prospect develop into a legit top 6 just seems unreal? (Not saying he has yet but he definitely could)

Yeah, you may be right. Small sample size is all. Anywho, if we get a top 4 dman, hopefully he can cover for Hainsey, Gardiner, Zaitsev (who I quite like) and whoever plays on the Dermott pairing.

Anyone else just keep refreshing the NHL scoring leaders page to see when it updates
- HealthyScratch6

Not sure if you use The Score app or what, but if you do (most ppl do) I don't think it updates until 2am or 3am.

I honestly don't think Spezza could keep up with this team. Looked pretty rough out there tonight. And I think he makes like 7.5 milly a year

The day they signed Tavares, Nylander became expendable for help on defense. Plain and simple.

As it stands now, Nylander's value is dropping by the day. He needs to be signed to a bridge deal, put on the RW of Matthews and on the #1 PP to get his point totals up big. When his value peaks, trade him for a RHD.

(frank) Spezza, he's old and slow. Already have Gauthier to do that.

And (frank) the idea of trading Kadri. He's more valuable to the Leafs than Nylander. Longest serving Leaf, plays hard minutes, scores, hits, plays tough (probably top 3 toughest guys on the team and that might say more about the team than Kadri but meh) and he has a sweet contract. Nylander is also younger and scores more points so chances are, his value is higher than Kadri's and brings you in a better D. Also, if you keep Nylander, you have to sign him and signing him plus a #1 RHD, that becomes very difficult if not impossible.

So tell that guy at work he's (frank)ed.

at this rate, Matthews gonna ask for $14mill and Marner gonna ask for $11mill....
I want them to get so many points and at the same time I don't want them to get so many points.....

For me (imo) it's just Nylander is a known commodity. I dont know if Kapanen can keep this up or if that 4th line can actually play like they did tonight. I also feel a bit sorry for Naz in the offense department.

I just don't think 1 dman makes too much difference to this team. In fact, in my opinion, if the forwards played better D, that would be the biggest upgrade we could make.

- walshyleafsfan

Or if the D played good D.

You see his shift at about half way through the 3rd IIRC, where he looked like he was trying to set a record for fastest skater in the All-Star Competition? I died at that

95% of this team is the same as last year. And the year before. And a couple from the year before that. It's not about game 20; they always play like this. These guys have to buy in and start playing team defense. This scoring goals to solve problems will blow up in their face eventually. Washington did it every single year for a decade and choked in the playoffs because they played all out offense. Do we really want to go down that road?

Tyler Dellow Sep 26, 2018

edit: here's his conclusion

All told, it’s hard for me to find an example in the 2010s of a left shot forward on the left flank on a high end power play, who seemed like a contributor that isn’t benefiting from a unit that was simply running hot.

That doesn’t mean it’s impossible. But when you’re weakening your second unit and altering your formula on a successful first unit, it does raise some questions as to why this would be the first thing you’d try.

Hes a director so I politely walk away from the conversation instead cause I tried saying hes crazy. I said the same as you about Nylander being expendable.
