Who has shown they are ready in Utica?
- Marwood

I have no idea. I haven't been following Utica so far, but preseason and 3 regular season games is such a small sample size. Having said that, do I think Sautner could possibly and capably replace one of our poopty D? I honestly do. Do I think someone could contribute more than what I perceive Beagle brings? I do.

So you think that all the prospects are ready for the NHL then?

- 1970vintage

don't put words in my mouth vintsy. I haven't been following Utica, and I am not a professional scout, none of us are, but having said that, I just think its pretty premature to base any definitive anything on preseason, and 2 or 3 regular season games. It goes both ways, despite me not liking Gudbranson, or Beagle, I should probably wait and see if they bring more. The difference between basing the play of a prospect VS a veteran, well they have shown for years what they bring, and a prospect hasn't, so really, I have no idea. My point was, I just find it hard to make decisions based off such small sample sizes.

Sam Gagner on Canucks cut: 'I didn’t see it coming'

https://www.sportsnet.ca/...cks-cut-didnt-see-coming/

- LeftCoaster

“I didn’t expect it. I didn’t see it coming. I felt like I had a good enough camp and I’d shown enough in my 11 years that I was able to make the team.”

Thought he could coast. Good to see that a veteran can be waived.

That’s why the winky face, don’t be so uptight .

If not preseason and 2 or 3 games what then? How can we be all judgey about players if we don’t consider the right now?

Even though I agree that a guy like Sauntner could fill in, I honestly don’t believe he would be an upgrade.

haha I'm not uptight, should have added a winky in response.

I just think everyone is super quick to judge after small sample sizes. Look at the media and headlines (brock boeser off to slow start, should people be concerned?). I think its all a bunch of nonsense tbh. I think Brock will be fine, maybe hes injured, maybe hes adjusting to the bulking he did, maybe its his wrist, but I am not worried about Brock. After everything is said and done, I just want the players who deserve to play, playing, no matter a veteran or a prospect or a ufa, the most deserving players should be given spots, and so far, that has been the attitude and decision making from Green (which I give him props for).

I agree with all that except the bold. I’m no pro scout or coach or hockey professional, don’t have the benefit of watching practice sessions or listening in on one on one interviews with players and coaches, but there are definitely guys who coasted through training camp/preseason who made the team.

examples? Gagner being waived was a testament to his lazy offseason, poor preseason. Hutton being scratched the same. MDZ being scratched now the same. Schaller the same. I thought Green has done a really good job at keeping all players accountable. I like how he hasn't gift wrapped any ice time as well.

Jesus that's a huge hurricane hitting Florida, cat 4

We have one heading right for us here, Cyclone Luban, it'll be my first experience with one, called a cyclone here though, cat 1 right now but expected to be a cat 2 in the next 24 hours.

Baertschi was dangerous most of the night.

Virtanen I didn't notice at all save for one wide open slapper that the goalie saw all the way.

Team Doctors cleared Demko to travel on plane despite his concussion. Now they are saying that the flight to Utica may have made his symptoms worse. Demko's agent is as confused as the media as to how the doctors let him fly despite the symptoms he was showing. Not a good look.

I like what Green has done. The only player I think he has blinders on for is his boy Pouliot.

I would agree. Having said that, you can only sit out so many D when you have so many poopty D lol. between MDZ/Hutton/Guddy/DP, they all haven't shown well so far.

.@botchford: When I see the coach say there's only one guy I trust on the left side...when Green says something like that, that's a beacon across the continent that should go right into Juolevi's ear that the red carpet is rolled out for you..and it's up to you to grasp it

,@botchford on Gudbranson: Derrick Pouliot got mauled all game. All game. And you know what his pairing partner did? Nothing. There was no, there's a bad mofo, that's a nasty guy, that's a big hit, there was nothing. When you add in the passes into skates, and the icings....

Friedman on Edler: “This is someone who does not want to leave Vancouver. He’s made that very clear. His contract is up after the season, and Tampa was interested a year ago. Someone’s going to want him as a rental, even if he returns to British Columbia next year.” #Canucks

.@imacSportsnet: It's another indication we're in a new era for the Canucks. One where Sam Gagner can be waived, when a Tim Schaller who was supposed to be a big free agent signing can be scratched to start the season and an era where Michael Del Zotto can be scratched as well.

How do you know Gagner had a lazy offseason? And his preseason, while unspectacular was as good or better than others who did make the team. They signed so many guys at forward positions to create competition but did nothing on D or in goal, where there was literally no competition.

By all accounts, Hutton came into camp in tiptop shape and his offseason was not an issue. Performance on the other hand.... well it is Hutton. Schaller had a injury, similarly did not have an issue with fitness. I agree he does keep guys accountable.

In another note, I'm amazed at some of the comments, it seems we were mostly in agreement that this team was going to be bad. Yet there seems to be a lot of people surprised that the same d/goalies are producing the same results early. Well, for those of you frustrated, it's going to be a looooong year for you.

I would assume he had a lazy offseason based off his complete lack of effort and constant coasting, but I probably shouldn't assume, maybe that is what Gagner is.
I thought the competition was there, I thought Dahlen made a good case, MacEwen had a strong showing, Gaudette played well (not well enough to win a spot). I thought on D it was a complete poop show though, I would agree there. Sautner played well, apart from his penalty filled preseason game, but I don't think he played worse than the bottom 4 we have.

For sure. But I hope he takes his time before coming into this mess. We need a lot of new players, maybe if him and Demko were at around the same time I would feel ok or if he came up for a short stint to dip his toes in. The team is bad, nothing's going to change that this year. No need for kids that aren't ready to be added to the fire.

We should ask Cody Hodgson and his Dad what they think of the team doctors.

haha I find it funny that people are frustrated. Being frustrated in Markstrom is warranted, he is a poop goalie, and those soft goals are infuriating. Being frustrated in where the team is it? Nah. They are putting up more than 1 or 2 goals a game, Pettersson is fun to watch, and a 1-2 record isn't exactly far off from what we all predicted. Despite them being more fun to watch this year, I don't think its far from reality that they still finish bottom 3

That’s always been Gagner’s game, before they signed him they knew what they were getting. 4th line ice time at 5v5, with PP specialization, which is what he provided last year. Did they expect him to all of a sudden become a speed guy? That’s why this seasons UFA signings bug me so much, because they are all labeled as speed guys, but are they really? Time will tell.
