On this past Columbus Day 2018, Lehner became the first Islanders goalie ever to record a shutout in his debut with the team.

No, really.

Good for him, I am pulling for him to do well, especially after tnat article about his addictions and mental illness.

Lehner will feel right at home in Brooklyn. Bushwick is full of Lehners. He’ll be fine.

Coach needs to keep the foot on the gas pedal while playing with a lead.

i am glad for him. i think if he gets everythign squared away and gets his head back on he could be a good goalie. after reading his article i am shocked he was as good as he even was last season. He needed that change and it could do him well.

Good luck to him..

i was very Frustrated by that as well.. we are not good enough to be letting up.

in other news. If Hutton keeps up this play he will be the pick up of the offseason. he has been great.

How's Dahlin been so far? Only a few games in I know, but is he looking the #1 pick?

more poised then hedman as a rookie, and it's not close

Was it the addition of Smith that resulted in the Sabres realizing that the D can pinch at the offensive blue line instead of backing all the way up?

Because that's maybe my favorite part of the strategy besides Hutton's puck-handling skills

There was a yuuge wrap on him before he even played a game, & hearing that (what you said), is pretty impressive. must be pretty exciting thinking if Botts can get you guys going what will be possible in a few years.

My guess is the coach isn't the one that's taking his foot off the pedal. Byslma was asked about the team doing that when he was the coach here and he said that was not his doing that the players were the ones that shifted how they were playing. Could still be old demons popping up in that regard now too.

I must have missed something because I don't remember him saying anything. He wasn't around for locker clean out day, as per the article he wrote, he was already at a rehab facility. Chad Johnson trashed the team on his way out.

Lehner actually said how Botterill has checked in with him even since he's no longer with the team. Doesn't sound like a guy with sour grapes IMO. He was actually grateful to JB for allowing him to be able to get a fresh start somewhere as well.

This was directed at his recent comments of "finally feels like i'm on a real team" would be my guess.

Sounds like the current sabres feel the same way

Scandella was almost giddy in the post-game interview while talking about the energy and the locker room

Can't blame him for being disgruntled that way. There's a lot of players that have said that. But at the same time, he clearly was part of the problem so he would best be served keeping that to himself.

Anyhow, I'm glad to see he seems to have gotten his poop together and is doing well.

It's October. There are a lot of good teams (and players) that play poorly, and a lot of poor teams (and players) that play well in October every year. What we've seen from the Sabres is encouraging so far, but I am just as unexcited as I was "not mad" after the opener.

Is that a coaching thing, though?

The teams that tend to not take the foot off the gas are the good ones that know how to win. I think it's more of a players thing than people realize.

There’s a difference here IMO. This team looks like they all belong on the ice together.

Sheary is a speedy winger for Eichel that doesn’t just shoot at every opportunity

Dahlin looks like he’s going to be unreal

Hutton looks like he has a brain

The bottom pair is finally not an AHL bottom pair and it’s two guys who can skate

The 4th line is finally a 4th line.

If Mittelstadt can get going, this team is legit

I don't dispute any of this, but they're also a young team, which can lead to some head-scratching moments. Injuries can also play a big factor.

Take 2008-2009. They started 6-2-2. They missed the playoffs that season.

I have no issue with cautious optimism, as long as it's just that. Cautious.

Pomminville too, he couldn't stop smiling the whole interview. It's almost like how the Bills were last year, everyone fired up for each other on the sidelines and stuff like that. Can't remember the last time the whole locker room was smiling in post game interviews for the Sabres.
