I’d give Thompson more time.

You can see skill with him and he has a great shot. I’d separate him and CM

- sbroads24

One of the things I noticed a lot about Thompson during the Prospect tournament is that he uses his stick well. I saw flashes of it yesterday. I think he's still trying to figure out the speed and stuff. That said, I'd like to see a bit more from him sooner, rather than later.

Bills signed QB Derek Anderson.

Anderson upgrades the Bills' backup situation behind Josh Allen, although the team is also keeping Nathan Peterman around on the active roster. S Dean Marlowe was cut in a corresponding move.

As long as he stays off the field, I have no issue with it.

Being that he was part of the problem, we invested a lot and lost on him AND Botts is taking the time to check in on him after he left the team...I think so.

It's classless to take jabs at your old team, regardless of the situation. Seems to me he's trying to play the victim to explain his terrible play and mental instability.

Eh. If you left a job you paid very well at but were also miserable, for another job for equal pay but you enjoyed it more, would you not let people know that was the case?

The only problem is that the Sabres have 3 players coming back soon (Sobotka, Larsson and Bogo). I think Sobotka probably goes into that LW role with Mitts, Elie goes to the press box, and Larsson gets waived.

I don't believe Elie can be waived again, and God help me, Girgensons doesn't deserve to be waived

Not if I was a poor performer when there. If he was standing on his head, not getting help, I would completely get it.

He wasn't, he was part of the problem.

If I was at a high paying job, performed poorly, was given a shot at another high paying job despite some real question marks...I'd just be happy to still have a job. Not sure casting aspersions about my former employer...especially if my former boss was kind enough to check on me at my new gig.

Seems low class to me.

Pomminville and Scandella have been talking about how much better the locker room is this year.

Are they low class?

I don’t think it’s a shot at the franchise. I think it’s a recognition that the situation was an all around tire fire.

No sense pretending it wasn’t, or refusing to acknowledge it.

They can waive him, but Dallas is first in line to claim him. If they do, they can send him down. Seems automatic that they would do that. I like what he adds to this team. He's a better Wilson.

I just presume Tennyson isn't really on this team, and Larsson gets activated in his spot.

I think that it is within their scope. They are on the team.

I rarely support players criticizing their former teams. I don't deny there might have been problems. However, Scandella and Pommer said the same thing about the culture change last year...they're all buzz words.

Lehner, I think, was trying to excuse himself by pointing at us somewhat after reading all of it. I have no ill will towards him, just won't be rooting for him as others do.

The risk is that Ullmark gets cold. The team will need to learn to play with him as well. I'd get Ullmark in there.

On the other hand, the schedule has been favorable to giving Hutton rest days. Maybe Ullmark plays 2 out west instead of Thursday

- jcragcrumple

Back to back 20/21st , no reason to give hutton a break.

After all this bad goaltending with lehner and Chad, no we have a solid goalie- ride him unless something changes

Mittelstadt has looked fine to me, Thompson hasn't been that great though

I disagree. Thompson looks pretty decent so far, IMO.

I generally like your takes on here. Maybe you haven't seen a sabres winning team in your adult life.

But:
Girgs is decent. He was playing with the 31st place team last year

Ullmark isn't needed currently. We are trying to win and you can tell that the players are gaining confidence in hutton. Why change until the back to back?
Ullmark getting cold? Even if he were hot, hes young and completely unproven at the nhl level

Definitely, I think it was more of a positive for the islanders, then a negative towards the sabres.

I'm sure tmgm is smiling ear to ear with his shutout

I think starting your backup every 4 or 5 games isn't a bad idea. They end up getting a little over 20 games per season. 60/20 split... However, I'd keep Hutton between the 50 and 60 start range for sure, so even starting Ullmark a couple in a row wouldn't bother me.

I'm giving him credit for Pominville's goal for sure, because that doesn't happen without girgs getting the puck to Erod. He's settling in nicely on the 4th line, and he compliments that unit well. If Wilson were healthy, i'd still prefer Wilson there, and Girgs in the press box.

Hutton's play so far has far exceeded my expectations. I don't think I ever watched him play before this season. And I figured his stellar save % last year was due to the stout defense in St Louis that he played behind. It's only a 3 game sample but so far it seems like his UFA signing could be one of Botts best moves yet.

Also, when Larsson gets activated, he sure better be on the bus to Rochester.

I don't think Lehner was trying to say anything negative about the Sabres with his comments, but more about himself and recovering from his addictions and mental health issues.

"I wanted to kill myself. I was extremely close multiple times," Lehner wrote in an essay as a guest author for The Athletic published on Thursday. "The battle of playing hockey was nothing compared to the battle inside my brain. It was at its worst."

The 27-year-old Lehner described managing his depression and anxiety by drinking a case of beer a day to "settle the demons" and taking pills to help him fall asleep.

"I was self-treating myself because I could not be inside my own head by myself," he wrote. "The thoughts of ending it all ... it was real and close."

I believe that he was more blaming himself for being the issue, not the team. Having gone through his treatment he now feels like he is part of the team again.

Haters gonna hate, so believe what you want.
