the Ennis experiment should be over... he can't play with Matthews it seems

if you put Ennis with Kadri - Kadri will be carrying him like Matthews tried to. Anyone of Leivo,Johnsson, Goat, Brown are going to be substantially more versatile than Ennis in a 3rd or 4th line role.

I cannot wait for Nylander to be on this roster.

The lines are good right now. But holy. Different options - you could have him play C , moves Kadri up and makes the line even deadlier.

#12 Patrick Marleau – #34 Auston Matthews – #28 Connor Brown
#43 Nazem Kadri – #91 John Tavares – #16 Mitch Marner
#18 Andreas Johnsson – #24 William Nylander – #63 Kasperi Kapanen
#32 Josh Leivo – #26 Par Lindholm – #11 Zach Hyman

Babcock on promoting Kapanen: "Kappy is another big body. We'd like him to decide he wants to play like Hyman, that's what we'd like him to decide to do. Get to the net, be on the inside all the time, bring it every single night. If he can do that, he can play a big part."

pretty much what you're saying. I prefer to keep nylander and kap.

- mykokes

Oh nice, I hadnt heard that quote before. Yeah I hope they're both a part of the team going forward, I think management sees them that way.

Dubas big mistake wasn't per se keeping Sparks.
(Although most people can tell Sparks has rebound control issues which limit his effectiveness as a NHL backup goalie).

The issue is that he made wrong decisions on who to keep, taking place of McSavey.

Babcock apparently wanted to keep Ozhiganov and Marincin on the roster.
(at least over Carrick).

Dubas then decided to waive McSavey over Holl - thát being his biggest mistake.
McSavey is a guarantee for at least decent backup performance.
Sparks is a question mark.

You keep 3 goalies, and then put Holl on waivers.
If he gets picked up, so be it - Leafs have Borgman and Rosen (+Nielsen) as well who are better / at least same as him. Plus already 7 d-man on the 23 man roster.

Basically Dubas kept Holl over McSavey - with the big ?? around Sparks.

It's clear - again! - Sparks is no backup. All of a sudden Leafs have to worry about backup goalie, while they had the perfect guy for it.

Dubas trying to outsmart rest of NHL is not working at all.

it's around the league.
I think the new goalie equipment rules mean most goalies save % will drop by 0.05 - 0.1.
Might not see any goalie with a save% over .920...

Check out Matthews with all his over the top celebrations lol. Whats with all these wrist flicks and hands to the ears and all that crap hes doing this year? Are you Hulk Hogan now? He really is American hey just like Kaner. Wont catch Cros or McD or any canadian boy celebrating like goofs like that. Take a note from Johnny T with his hatty, act like you've been there before.

People have already made their decision up and then don't care how their opinions don't align with reality, they still spew even if it makes them look dumb

So you think it's a good idea to have kept Sparks over McElhinney?

One game? We'll see.

One guy had a terrific year in the ahl last year and is 10 years younger, he deserves a shot.

They made their choice, have to see if it works out first. Mcelhinney was a waiver guy and may be available again in a month if need be.

Agreed. Loved last year when Matthews did his own goal point to spite the ref. It's a game, it should be fun and exciting and interesting.

Been saying for 2 years that Sparks is a non-NHL goalie.
He hasn't 'deserved' anything - even in AHL his rebound control was afwul.

And McElhinney is definitely not going to be made available. He's too good of a backup to just give away.

He lost someone on waivers, he clearly didn't try to trade him. thought he would outsmart the league by sending on waivers. He got caught.

this is comical.
