He is merely negotiating his worth in the system as it has been set up. Leafs are doing the same. He may be getting bad advice, and is certainly prioritizing things differently than we as fans do. He isn’t using poison, and things could still come out well for the leafs and for him. We are all being somewhat reactionary and impatient. Many are jumping to conclusions based on nothing more than media speculation. I think this will work itself out; I know - speculative on my part, and seem like a lot of drama over something not that big in the bigger picture of the leafs building towards something great.
- Dr. Leaf

I get what you are saying and I hope so but the longer it takes the worse it will be for both especially Willy....I doubt he would be the star he can be anywhere else but Toronto but I am only assuming....really like watching Willy play but he is not worth 8 mil

As for Nylander, how can you not be disappointed? Pre-season is an acceptable holdout. Regular season? No, you're losing supporters quickly.

Draisaitl has back to back 70 point seasons, not back to back 60 point seasons.

So how long after he's traded to a small market does Sport Chek and Reebok drop the advertising dollars?

- Blazed

Plus, Draisaitl was very much overpaid by a retarded GM.

So it's 2-fold. Draisaitl has not only outproduced Bill Ny, he's got a dumbass for a GM.

He's simply not a comparable for Bill Ny's contract. Regardless of what his agent tries to say.

Agreed.
I’d rather this played out sooner and he got signed for a reasonable amount. If the speculation is accurate, he does seem to be getting some poor advice, but I do think the reactions to him trying to assert his limited leverage are a bit over the top. And I get that - Ive been bleeding leaf blue for 50+ years.
You do have a point for sure about being a legend as a leaf vs a nobody in a smaller market. I do hope at some point that plays into his thinking, but the whole thing is very complex and I’m not going to hate the guy for trying to get what he feels he is worth - in fact I’d love for him to use that as motivation to prove his worth once he signs and I
Like that he believes in his talents. I also won’t vilify GM Doobie for sticking to his plan - he needs to. This will be resolved at
Some point and won’t seem anywhere near as important then as it does now.

Yes it has. One game. Cup doesn’t get given out for 8 months.
Lots of great
Leaf hockey between now and then. Enjoy, hell even blaze something else while we all enjoy the ride.

Right, to date one game where Nylander has put himself ahead of the team. Reactions seems justified at this point.

We don't actually know that though.
Do we actually know for sure what Dubas is trying to sign him for? There is a possibility he hasn't been willing to even go that high. He could be insisting on no higher than say, 6.5m, for all we know.

Unless someone from Dubas' camp has stated otherwise.

While it seems like Willy is being unreasonable here, it's mostly speculation, just like I remember the media going on about Kadri having unreasonable demands during his last negotiation and he signed for a cheap 4.5 mil, so we can't exactly trust what the talking heads on t.v. say.

Hopefully this all gets wrapped up soon and Willy signs a fair deal so we can stop talking about this and stop getting angry at a good player that I'd like to be part of this team for a long time. If Willy's camp really is being unreasonable and won't agree on a fair deal, hopefully Dubas sticks to his guns and maybe trades his ass for a good dman (even if he has to add due to Willy not being signed).

Sure and that may be the case, depending on how this plays out he could be forgiven he’s a really good player.

Having said that missing the season opener of the most anticipated Leaf season ever reflects very poorly on the player no matter how you frame it.

I find it kind of funny how some people are almost insulted by Nylander cause he hasn’t signed yet (frank) you Willie!! Do you not want multiple cups?! Tavares only took 11 a year! Go play for the Sens you bum.

Honest question who and when was the last time a Leaf missed regular season games holding out for a contract?

Dubas: We'll give you $6mm X 8.

Sundin debated retirement and missed nearly half the year. Not the same in my books.

Having said that the move did slightly tarnish his legacy (not for me the Leafs sucked anyways but still).

I would be.

I mean, if Bill Ny's agent wants to go 2 million over in the ask at 8.5, then it would make sense if the Leafs started at sub 6.

But I feel like Dubas and Brandon Pridham would just start and stay at what they feel is what he's worse and not Richard around.

I have absolutely no reason behind thinking that, though. I just do.

Thanks to Couture and Lebanc doing everything on that shift in OT, Jones was good enough to get the win.

Kovalchuk did nothing nor did he look great. He was just there
