I don't know, man. All along, I think Nylander has been thinking, "Just because Babcock won't play me at center doesn't mean I am not one, and you aren't going to slot me behind Marner to the tune of $2 million."

It reminds me very much of when Ryan O'Reilly and Matt Duchene were in Colorado. O'Reilly basically said through his contract demands and the signing of the offer sheet that he was as good as Duchene and wasn't taking a penny less

Not saying there's personal animosity or anything like that. Just saying that this feels like Nylander is saying he isn't cool getting slotted behind other guys to the tune of millions of dollars of AAV

I think this ends up in a trade

- AllInForFlyers

It only ends up in a trade if it's a sign and trade, otherwise they wouldn't get proper value for their asset. Remember, the Leafs have the leverage here, since Nylander can't play in the NHL unless they allow it. The only leverage Nylander has is refusal of services, and the longer that goes on, the more his value drops.

I'm not sure that Seattle joining changes the cap. The expansion fee goes straight to the owners - something like 22mill each - and isn't counted as hockey revenue to be shared 50-50 with the players. The reason the owners want expansion, not relocation of franchises.

Give Willie 2x$7m and play him with Leivo and Brown as a C. Let’s see what he brings then pay him if deserved.

They'd show how serious they are by trading him.
- Arctic_AARDVARK

If he ends up with a bridge deal because he wanted too much $ on a longer term deal, he's as good as traded.

Remember when the Hawks signed Hossa how the media said they have only one shot at the cup because the cap would destroy the team? Good times.

He’s lost 60K(or close to) the last two days for not paying.

Time is ticking

Not necessarily!!!!
Kucherov was signed to a really sh!t bridge deal - one of the worst (for the player ) best for the team contracts ever - then after being steamed and complaining for years, he still signed a below market value team friendly long-term deal. He (frank)ed himself the same way Nylander's father/agent is going to (frank) Willie.

As for Nylander, how can you not be disappointed? Pre-season is an acceptable holdout. Regular season? No, you're losing supporters quickly.

Draisaitl has back to back 70 point seasons, not back to back 60 point seasons.

So how long after he's traded to a small market does Sport Chek and Reebok drop the advertising dollars?

For that to fit, Toronto would have to take a salary dump back as well. Gunnarsson's 2.9 mill this year for example.

Nylander's idiot agent, did the same with Gaudreau - who signed for $6.75 million X6 after sitting out training camp. Only thing about Gaudreau, he scored 23 more points than Willie last year and he played with Sean Monahan, not Auston Matthews. Bridge the (frank)er already.

Yep. Those teams are just dying to trade those guys to us just because some Leaf fans have no patience.
T.I.T.S.

Leaf fans patience has nothing to do with it.....Willy is throwing poison into this whole Shanaplan so if he doesn't sign real soon if it already isn't too late then he will be traded and I doubt his career will ever be the same as if he signed here and made his contribution to a possible dynasty that they are trying for

I think it's Dad....his Dad probably doesn't like Babs because Babs gave Willy too many detentions when Willy didn't a poop about playing defensive hockey

He is merely negotiating his worth in the system as it has been set up. Leafs are doing the same. He may be getting bad advice, and is certainly prioritizing things differently than we as fans do. He isn’t using poison, and things could still come out well for the leafs and for him. We are all being somewhat reactionary and impatient. Many are jumping to conclusions based on nothing more than media speculation. I think this will work itself out; I know - speculative on my part, and seem like a lot of drama over something not that big in the bigger picture of the leafs building towards something great.
