They laugh at Leafs fans low balling him but then they come at us with a bridge deal worth 6.5? come on
- Santo_44

As an outsider I have stayed firm it will be about 7 per...either with the Leafs or someone else.

The big question is WTF do you do if Marner and Matthews both want 11? Or if Matthews wants 12 or 13?

That makes it...wow. They are all elite players. But can you win like that?

Gonna be fascinating to watch

- AllInForFlyers

Trade em all. Rebuild around an aging Tavares. Continue to wonder how other teams sign players for less the market value. Troll under an alt.

Gentlemen:

I will be hosting a Nylander jersey burning party outside the arena, prior to tomorrow night's game.

Be sure to remember to bring those cute tiki-torches.

We shall have our vengeance!

LOL

Man, don't you realize that the Leafs are the center of all intrigue, since you signed Tavares?

You have to know this. People truly wonder how they make this work, and Nylander is the canary in the coal mine

And this might take some original and fancy maneuvering

Long term deal around Pasternak money would prolly be 7 this season. 7/56 could very well get it done.
- Hesh_

7.5 would be more than 10% above Pasternak and the cap hasn't gone up nearly 10%. 6.8. would be about the 'inflation' increase since then.

It really is fascinating...do they even try to sign Gardiner? At what point does Kadri become a luxury, not a necessity?

What is Nylander worth on the open market?

Stuff like that is interesting

Okay.. But letting JVR walk kinda refreshed the air a little.. Plus Gardiner walking after this year and Marleau's legs will fall off trying to keep up so pack your poop old man..

Kadri and Rielly are on fantastic contracts. Leafs will run with cheap and young defense. Seattle joining the league will bump the cap up significantly. Leafs have some very good "capologists" as well.. No one here is worried tbh.

Didn’t mention 7.5, but it’s not just cap inflation. The newer guy always gets the better deal, even if they aren’t necessarily at the same level, but rather similar ones.
6.8 might make him bite. Who knows?

I honestly never said anyone should be nervous, anything like that...it's just contracts. It's just interesting because clearly, Nylander wants something that he isn't hearing, and that fascinates people

I feel like Micheal Nylander was screwed over at some point in his career so now he's making sure William gets every last cent he deserves..

I get why the Leafs wouldn't sign him for the money, but how did it refresh the air? Did JvR not mesh in the locker room?

In two years, would it surprise you if someone tossed him 9? If he continues his trend, and...
- Hesh_

Lets talk about his trend

1st year. Plays 1st line minutes. Has Matthews as center. 61 points
2nd year. Plays 1st line minutes. Has Matthews as center. 61 points

You wanna bet that if you put Bozak instead of Nylander on Matthew's wing, he'd still manage 50-60 points? Hell, he did 50+ without Matthews.

Nylander's trend is a 60 point player IF he plays on the 1st line of the team, and IF he plays with the best centerman on that team.

You want another bet? I'll bet you on a crap team or on the 2nd line with a crap center, he'll struggle to reach 60 points.

In what world is that worth 8 mil a year for 8 years?

He'd impress me if he put up 60 points and played center on the 3rd line, while defensively shutting down the best opponents on the other team.

Oh wait, thats Kadri.

He's worse than Kadri, and does less as a player, while having better line mates.

If you want to get into nit picking, he also runs away from physical play and tends towards floating around and waiting for the puck instead of engaging in the corners and working it out. Most noticeable during the playoffs.

I'd rather up Kadri at $8 mil than keep Nylander for that price, and its not even close which one is more valuable and does more work for this team.

If you're gonna take inflation into account, then Pasternak outperforming Bill Ny in every way needs to be taken into account, too.

And that still puts Nylander at or just below Pasternak's current salary.

Only women should wear silk to bed. I thought it wasn't possible to sweat more than wearing a full size Alf costume, no not for Halloween, but I was wrong.

Never said it was. I said 6 was his current value, but I don’t think he’ll sign for it.

But he is a very young player. Chances are, his game is gonna improve. When he reaches UFA status in a few, then yeah, 8 wouldn’t surprise me in the least

Oh, no.. JVR is 100% class..

I just meant thats 6-7 million they woulda had to pay him.. Leafs knew they couldn't afford him. LW is our weakest position now because he's gone..

I'm not sure that Seattle joining changes the cap. The expansion fee goes straight to the owners - something like 22mill each - and isn't counted as hockey revenue to be shared 50-50 with the players. The reason the owners want expansion, not relocation of franchises.
