In two years, would it surprise you if someone tossed him 9? If he continues his trend, and there’s no reason to think he won’t with those teammates and him coming of age as a player, I could totally see him getting 9 from somebody when he reaches UFA status. Might not be a contender (probably won’t be), but it wouldn’t surprise me. Not if the cap continues to rise.
- Hesh_

Nylander? As an RFA? Yes I'd be shocked. 9 mil for a high 60s/low 70s (potentially) RFA. Yeah, it'd surprise me.

As a UFA? Nothing would shock me

It’s probably an overpayment, but I wouldn’t bat an eye if he got that money after two more years.
- Hesh_

well

probably one reason right there why you are here like the rest of us and not managing a hockey team

6x6.5
that is what he is worth long term

I am sure there are teams out there that would give him 7-7.5....if Nylander wants that over being on a good team then he will get his wish.

Gentlemen:

I will be hosting a Nylander jersey burning party outside the arena, prior to tomorrow night's game.

Be sure to remember to bring those cute tiki-torches.

We shall have our vengeance!

Hang on I gotta go buy a Nylander jersey!!!

Agreed, but I’m just saying I don’t think he’ll sign it. I think the Leafs should offer 6 (6.5 if they have to) short term. They most likely have. 2/12-2/13. Make it 3 like Kucherov did if they have to. I just don’t foresee him taking an 8/48. Could be wrong.

i'd do 6x6.75-7 for willie and just be done with it.

as much as people say we don't need willie, we need him. Matthews was the only one on that line driving play. Ennis just isn't that good, and marleau is meh as well. don't get me wrong, i like marleau, but i don't think he's someone who can carry the puck and control the offensive zone like willie can.

also, think about our OT options. start with Tavares-Marner, follow with Matthews-Nylander, and if the game still isn't over, put Kadri-Marleau/Kapanen. Only other team that can match that is Pittsburgh.

If the leafs give Nylander 2x6.5 Dubas would have to quit...because he would be just sabotaging the leafs.

He does not under and circumstances deserve 250k less than Pasta on a bridge deal. That means he would be looking for 10 million on a long term deal after.

Kucherov bridges at 3x4.5 and got 8x9

Kuztetsov got 2x3

There is no chance he gets 2x6.5

A bridge deal at 6 - 6.5 Million is a big over payment

With the Matthews and Marner contracts coming up next year, the Leafs need to play hardball with Nylander. If they stick to their guns, and don't cave, it will send a message to all the other players that they need to be realistic when negotiating contracts with the club. Short term pain for long term gain.
- The Shrike

I don't know, man. All along, I think Nylander has been thinking, "Just because Babcock won't play me at center doesn't mean I am not one, and you aren't going to slot me behind Marner to the tune of $2 million."

It reminds me very much of when Ryan O'Reilly and Matt Duchene were in Colorado. O'Reilly basically said through his contract demands and the signing of the offer sheet that he was as good as Duchene and wasn't taking a penny less

Not saying there's personal animosity or anything like that. Just saying that this feels like Nylander is saying he isn't cool getting slotted behind other guys to the tune of millions of dollars of AAV

I think this ends up in a trade

So what is it you’re hoping for
- Hesh_

Me? A long term deal at a decent cap hit similar to Pasternak etc... around 6.6-6.8/yr avg.

Or: Bridge deal for 3.5-4.5 range for a couple of years and then revisit the longer term.

Not worth 6.5 on a bridge, others haven't been near that after 2 yrs.

In the summer they should of sat all 3 of them down. Told them how much they could spend on all 3 players total and told them to divide it amongst themselves.

Edit; obviously I’m joking, but if one of nylanders biggest issues going forward is being well underpaid then marner and Matthews then they all should of got there deals done together so it would be as a big of a deal and seen where everyone stood going forward.

who knows which teams are wiling to trade which players? we surely don't.

hypothetically the Blues get off to a 0-4 start - after signing a bunch of FreeAgents and a big trade - who knows? if they can't score... maybe they look to add scoring...
we can't tell in advance.

its all guessing ... just like Dreger and the others about how much Nylander is asking for...

- BorjeFan4Ever

Yes it is guessing. I'd say a likely and educated guess that a team wanting to compete is NOT going to trade you their best young defenceman, especially a R handed shot on a good contract. I'd love to have him, but I don't see the Blues having any need or reason to trade him to get Nylander and pay him at least 2 mill/yr more.

For sure. But one player doesn't get the whole whack
- walshyleafsfan

They shouldn't. But not everyone has their contract come due at the same time, so not all of it needs to be spread amongst a lot of players; not many players are at the top end of the pay scale where they do get disproportionately more of the increase either. And I agree one guy shouldn't get it all, but it doesn't stop players/agents from trying to get it all if they see it as a new amount of fresh money on the table and they are first to the table.

I am sooo sick and tired of hearing that they are far apart with pretty boy Willie, his agent and his father are giving him bad advice, his father played with 7 teams during his NHL career so he was probably a dofus.

I heard that Willie is doing Reebok commercials, how much franking money does he need?

If he doesn't agree to a contract by early to mid November i would trade his ass away to a team that hopefully will never make the playoffs during his tenure there, then he could sit on his couch and play with his money while the Leafs are fighting for the Cup.

Long term deal around Pasternak money would prolly be 7 this season. 7/56 could very well get it done.

The big question is WTF do you do if Marner and Matthews both want 11? Or if Matthews wants 12 or 13?

That makes it...wow. They are all elite players. But can you win like that?

Gonna be fascinating to watch

ffs

You are way overeating this raising cap bs

Kuzy signed his deal when the cap was 71.5 M

it is now 79.5 M

Want to know what the pro rated cap hit is? 3.3 M

So I have no idea where you are getting this 6.5 number from
