With the Matthews and Marner contracts coming up next year, the Leafs need to play hardball with Nylander. If they stick to their guns, and don't cave, it will send a message to all the other players that they need to be realistic when negotiating contracts with the club. Short term pain for long term gain. |

They'd show how serious they are by trading him. |

Nylander doesnt mix well with the rest of the core (matthews, marner, rielly, kadri, freddy) and therefore he'll be gone before start next season. - plantheparade
And you know this because you are right with all of them???? Or are you just making up and believing your own rumours? |

Ya, I think that’s a good compromise.
2 years and marleau is off the books and hopefully cap goes up.
Nylander can then sign for more money. - bryant
It’s absolutely a good deal. I think market would be closer to 2yr/13m, but I’m not sure he wants to risk it god forbid injury takes this opportunity away.
If I’m the Leafs, I’d try 2yr/12m (I’m sure they have), and settle on 2/13.
If he proves his value (and I believe he will), he’ll be up for a substantial raise afterwards. Maybe it won’t be Toronto giving it to him, but that’s a Cup window that gives the Leafs a win now forecast, and allows him to go for an even better contract then |

I loved how many big players with zero talent Burke kept drafting. He even got a big player with no talent named Biggs. |

The Blues don't really need Willie.
But Anaheim is in need of someone to replace Perry. Now and in the future.
Anaheim has D to spare. Both would be trade trading from a position of strength, for something they need
And im not a Leafs fan. - bigpetar
Anaheim won’t give the D Leafs need. And that was my point: blues would have no interest in sending us their best young defensemen just because some impatient leafs fans are mad at Willy after holding out one game. |

Exactly what MLSE wants...
Have fans believe Nylander is holding out for more money, fans burn jerseys, Nylander signs discount friendly contract, fans buy even more Nylander jerseys and Nylander gets a cut. |

Has Bob Mac, Freidman or CJ reported on the figure Nylander is looking for? - walshyleafsfan
yanking it right out of the behinds.
it is not reporting - it is speculation impersonating reporting. |

Exactly. This is what I don't get about that argument. Cap goes up 2 mil. Split among your 23 man roster each player makes 87k more than they would have done. - walshyleafsfan
They don’t split it up evenly. More goes to the top end guys and those with leverage. If it goes up 10% then the top guy will go up a millionish - the low end minimum guys don’t go up at all - no leverage as they are easily replaced. |

So Dubas is trying to sign Nylander to a fair value based on comparables, and Nylander is asking for $8 mln because....? I don't see how he's that out of touch with reality.
If that's the case trade him to Ottawa
That will send a message to anybody else getting greedy |

Yep. Those teams are just dying to trade those guys to us just because some Leaf fans have no patience.
T.I.T.S. - Dr. Leaf
who knows which teams are wiling to trade which players? we surely don't.
hypothetically the Blues get off to a 0-4 start - after signing a bunch of FreeAgents and a big trade - who knows? if they can't score... maybe they look to add scoring...
we can't tell in advance.
its all guessing ... just like Dreger and the others about how much Nylander is asking for...

On a bridge deal? The idea of the bridge deal is the player doesn't receive 100% of his value for those few years. 6.5 on a bridge leads to 9 + after the fact. |

In two years, would it surprise you if someone tossed him 9? If he continues his trend, and there’s no reason to think he won’t with those teammates and him coming of age as a player, I could totally see him getting 9 from somebody when he reaches UFA status. Might not be a contender (probably won’t be), but it wouldn’t surprise me. Not if the cap continues to rise. |

It’s probably an overpayment, but I wouldn’t bat an eye if he got that money after two more years. |
