I once posted on a Blackberry while sitting by a river, but that's clearly not as good. - Atomic Wedgie
You just be the best you that you can be. You have other things you can hang your (non-Penguins) hat on and people will love you for who you are inside. |

The abuse continues............
There were signs of discussion but you've killed that again. Replaced with vile abuse. You know zero about me but you tell me what I am & what I do?
This seems like history repeating, only this time we are in fact in the Leaves thread. I didn't realise it was your personal thread that allows you to throw abuse around!

How many rfa were getting 8, 9, 10 11 12 million $ contracts back in Tavares rfa days compared to today? - Aussiepenguin
I'm going to engage - because I find it entertaining.
What was Crosby's contract after he entry level contract? The contract for the best player in hockey at the time? |

I would honestly love it if we traded Nylander for that pick - watching Ottawa flail all year would be so delicious if we knew it meant getting a good player.
I would be willing to throw in Bracco... - Atomic Wedgie

That's naive. The reports were that he was offered as much as 12 per year ....and perhaps by the Islanders. If so he took 77 Milly instead of 96. He left anywhere from 10-20 million on the table to try to win with the Leafs. But you keep taking it however you will. - The Law
And everyone says that San Jose offered over $13 million a season.
It's pretty factual that Tavares, while he makes a (frank)ton of money, still took less to come to the Leafs. |

I was going to pick him up off the free agent list, but I already had Eichel, Barzal and Point.
Too many centers already. |

Guys, Yost has another revolutionary analysis on TSN.
He put up bar graphs that showed the odds of winning the cup vs. finishing in the top whatever in the league.
The graphs CLEARLY showed that teams that finish somewhere in the top 8 of the conference or top 16 in the league, win the cup 100% of the time.
After this hard-hitting, in-depth analysis, he finishes with the following conclusion:
Many teams have a real shot. But based on this type of research, true contenders are generally isolated to the ones finishing near the top of the standings in their respective conferences. - Yost
astounding. |

My league is just forwards, not wingers and centres. So that makes it easier.
Unfortunately though, my goaltending is awful. |

How does this mesh with the Tanner hypothesis that winning the Stanley Cup is nothing but luck? |

We disagree.
In regards to the contract, I think the NHL is getting younger quick. These big contracts are being paid to older players for their past work & in my opinion a lot won't earn that payday by that contracts end. There's a few out there.
The young guys want to be paid for their work they will give, yes it's a risk but so is giving out huge contracts to older players. Why shouldn't guys that are pointing towards being high end be paid that way? Why do organisations just basically give older players free money because they've been good in the past? - Aussiepenguin
The end result to this push by the young players agents will be when the CBA is up, and the NHL wants the initial ELC contracts to be 5 years, instead of the current 3. Could be full UFA after that, eliminating RFA completely.

Owners will never, ever agree to UFA status after 5 years.
I smell another lockout, unfortunately. |

This is best described below. The green represents the teams most likely to win the cup.

And he contradicts himself.
Being at the top doesn't really help.
But being in top 4 in conference is really good.

Currently, it's full cost certainty for 3 years, followed by a declining degree of cost certainty for 4 years, then UFA after 7. With more and more teams caving, and giving their players UFA money starting year 4, extending the ELC duration from 3 to 5 years, in exchange for UFA status from 7 to 5 would be a win for the owners.
Oh, and there will be another lockout, regardless of what happens...that's the only play in Gary's playbook, and it works 100% of the time. |

This is probably because I am a Leafs fan and we have expensive players now, but I would not mind seeing the owners dig in harder this time and sacrifice a whole season and into the next season.
Rick Curran had a quote earlier this week about "the only reason owners want
the players to accept less money is to make up for the bad deals they signed".
He fails to understand that a "bad deal" in this is case is one in which the player negotiated a salary against which they badly under-performed... but yeah, let's blame the owners for the players underperforming and not living up to their contract.
... and last I checked those bad, over-priced contracts went to NHLPA members also did they not? |
