What do you think Pietrangelo gets in free agency.
Answer: the same problem salary that Nylander would get now, or worse.
This is not the right trade. The core has to remain young. - Aetherial
It doesn't really matter because he'd be worth it.
It's not the same problem because it's money spent on D instead of the 4th best forward. Also, Marleau will be gone which opens up money.
I'd like to get a young guy too but good luck finding one available. You have to take what you can sometimes. |

Which is basically what I said, so why are you acting like you're disagreeing? As long as they either sign him or get a comparable player back, all good. - Thecakeisalie
I'm not?
Yes, Tavares is locked up. But it's about reputation and keeping your word to players. It makes Dubas and the Leafs look bad if they fail to keep their promises to JT. Not to mention it will probably just piss JT off and affect morale.
If the team improves, it's a non-issue. It's about winning more than it's about winning with Nylander. |

Why is this Nylander’s responsibility? So why don’t Mathews, Marner and Gardiner all step forward and do deals for less? I have no problem with Willy wanting to get paid what he thinks he’s worth. I’m not saying Dubas should agree but that’s what salary negotiations are all about. - Canada Cup
It’s kind of like paying for premium
Some people are willing to pay for the premium and some don’t want to spend a dime more than they have to.
Dubas is offering a good team and good teammates. |

Nylander is less important than Matthews or Marner or Tavares. And I fully expect us to let Gardiner walk after this year.
Plus don't forget Reilly and Kadri, who both took team friendly deals. Although to be fair, I suppose Kadri wouldn't have settled for what he did if he'd had a couple 30 goal seasons already. |

The worst thing about Nylander being traded is Matthews will really struggle 5 on 5 to be effective. Marleau Matthews and any RW not named Marner will really affect Matthews' game.
Either way, it'll get done, so fear not. Nylander lost 70k in the last 26 hours. - walshyleafsfan
Depends on how far apart they are.
Let's say Nylander's bottom dollar is $7m (given comparables like Pastrnak, Drai, Ehlers etc that's not unreasonable - he's outperformed many others not riding shotgun with McJesus for a while) but Toronto wants him at $6.25m on an 8 year deal, then the difference is $6m total (likely more like $2-3m after tax). 26k is a drop in the bucket compared to that...
My prediction (FWIW) is $6.9m (nice) x 8 years. Leafs probably sold enough jerseys after JT signed to knock up hockey related revenue by enough to raise the cap a couple of million extra next year, so I wouldn't fret too much... |

Pretty much any one of the Canes' RD would be able to slot in alongside Rielly and be an upgrade over Hainsey. Sadly at a shade over $4m a year, Pesce isn't going anywhere except for an overpay... |

I reckon it won't go past Wednesday/ Thursday and it'll be a shorter deal in and around the 5 mil mark.
The proposal of trading Nylander for a dman and watching Marleau/Hyman and Kapanen/Brown/Ennis with Matthews makes me sad.
Having said that, Bracco is the one guy in the organization Matthews should play with in a couple of years. Perfick fit. |

Let's be honest, he could have asked for Max and still deserved more. Sadly Chia (frank)ed it by giving the difference to Russell... |

No wonder we Leaf fans get such a bad reputation.
Relax people.
It has been 2 days of a hold out.
Leafs won.
Willy isn’t some horrible monster; his relationship with the team/fans/teammates has not been irreparably damaged.
We do NOT need to trade him for pennies on the dollar to grab some half assed defenceman.
GM Doobie is NOT GM Chiapet.
This too shall pass.
And when it does it will be a little blip in the rear view mirror not a huge insurmountable problem.
Patience.
Good thing
Lie ahead. |

I disagree with you there.
Pesce is a good young D....but he shall not be overrated because he’s a D. He got 4 million for a reason. And in fact he was better the year before last year when he got the contract.
Remember Adam larsonn...very similar player. |

He’s a RFA so he’s pretty much screwed. He has to sign or sit. The Leafs can win without him for now so my guess he’s starting to sweat 😓 a little bit. |

Both Rielly and Kadri signed when the team was still poop and they went for the security, guaranteed money deal. |

Dude.. The Canes fired their GM and only gave interviews if they agreed to make less than all other GM's.. Never underestimate how cheap the new owner is. |
