Yeah if he signs a couple weeks from now.

If he doesn't by December 1st he can't sign till the offseason and misses a whole year pay. If it's about the money, than it doesn't make much sense. Is all I'm saying.

- LeafGuy89

Neither two weeks nor next summer make financial sense. At this point he's getting poor advice. Dubas comes out of this looking good if he sticks to his guns (assuming that's Pastarnak money) or he deals him for good young defender

It would also shut the dumb media speculators up. Yes Lebrun he was asking for 8.5 because you Doinks keep saying Marner is getting 10... idiot's

If Willy signs for around 7 m or less, I'll be very happy and take back anything negative I've said about him. Much more than that and I won't be so happy, but probably still glad he's signed and the negotiations are over.

If he continues to price himself off of this team though, then (frank) him. He's good, but he's a complimentary piece, and not irreplaceable. If we can't get him signed for a good price, trade his ass.

- Thecakeisalie

This is the thing, on the leafs he is a complimentary piece, a very good piece but complimentary none the less and they feel he should be paid as such. The Nylander camp feels he is a star, or a star in the making and should be paid like a star. He may very well be "the guy" on another team but the reality is here with the leafs he is not, hence the stalemate.

There are a lot of posters on here saying trade him if he won't take less and there are those other posters calling them out for it, I can't say I think either are wrong, I certainly understand both sides but if push comes to shove I side with the team, at the end of the day they have to do what's best for the team, if trading him is the solution and we can fix another need in the process I am ok with that.

Benn, Jamie $5.2m
Drouin, Jonathan $5.5m

all his fault.
getting schooled in NHL contract negotiations.
at least it's Nylander and not Marner / Matthews.
(probably best to sign those 2 first and then work on Nylander who is lesser of 3).

A deal that could turn bad or good depending on how much Lindholm improves....

Personally I think he'll remain a 50-55 point guy so it's not that great of a contract.

I don’t deserve it.

Bissonnette was on radio yesterday saying that at this point Nylander is getting bad advice.

If he wants to play he has to sign and each day hes getting closer to doing that. The host said then what was the point in this exercise and all Bissonette said was bad advice. I believe hes right. Theres no reason to hold out for too long.

He has 2 answers I can think of and not saying they are right just two he could use.

1. He will vastly improve
2. Inflation

Compared to no one in particular.

He's been seen and talked about as a future or current #1 defenseman in the NHL and I've yet to see anything to think he's gonna reach such a level of play.

I find this claim highly dubious. I've never personally seen him in the #1 dman conversation. Morgan Rielly has frequently been cited as a comparable and he's been talked about as a mobile puck moving d-man, perhaps able to play top pairing, but never seen him referred to as 'THE GUY'.

Yup.

Adding to the fact more and more team give out big contract to their young franchise player and he's got some arguments to ask for alot of money.

I'd cringe at giving him more than 7M but.... I doubt he settles for less than that.

I like Rielly a hell of alot more than Lindholm.

Maybe it's just me reading Tanner's thread too much, I don't know.

You guys should take a hint from me and just stick to reading Garf's blogs. That way at least you know you're not filling your head with lies because you'll ultimately be filling it with nothing at all.

including players that signed contracts over 4 or 5 years ago is not fair.

Post what the % of the cap hit was when they signed it.
Example. Jamie benn signed for 5.2 when the cap was 65 mil. which is 8%

8% of the cap today is 6.4

Also Nylander has out produced Benn at the same age

And if those guys were negotiating a long term deal now many would be getting a lot more money.
