This Cody Ceci lead defense gives me chills.

Heiskanen looked incredible in yesterday's game (at least the highlights).
Good hopes for my Calder prediction.

Looking like a bridge deal at this point. Forget the long term deal. If he signs long term at a good number fine - otherwise (frank) him, his agent and his old man. Bridge him for the next five years and he will never make up the money he leaves on the table to age 27.
- winsix

Trade him to Arizona. Show him what life with Galchenyuk as his center will be like.

Guy has a chance to play with one of the best young centers in the game on a team that can compete with most teams.

Hid dad and agent probably arent worth dealing with tbh.

Dubas: Hey Willy, we really need you to get back on the ice. In order to make that happen I want to offer you an 8 year deal for $6.9mm a year and we'll structure it in a way that works for you. We'll also get you another $1mm with a "Head and Shoulders" endorsement deal.
Willy: Sorry Kyle, I want 8 years @ $8mm. I need to look after myself.
Dubas: Ok, I completely understand that. I'd like to offer you something a little different then. Here's a 1 way ticket to Phoenix and HOHO's hat. Go (frank) it and (frank) yourself! Enjoy being a Coyote.

Nylander will sign for whatever the leafs are offering him. What's he going to do sit out the whole season? He has no rights. If he asks for a trade the leafs can just say no.
- HealthyScratch6

Ya he could. Its been done before and the player got is money, or at least close to it I believe

I'd rather have somebody more proven than roll the dice on a guy you might have to wait another 3 or 4 years to be who you need him to be right now. At 29, he'd have at least 5 or 6 more prime years left. Chara at 40 is still going.

Umm he could easily make up the money if he bridges and produces in that time. 4-5 year bridge will still pay him 4-5.5 per. Then he could be looking at 10 per in 4-5 years if he gets 75-80pts per season in that time.

Whether he signs for 6.5 or 7 or 8, the fact remains, he's the Leafs 4th, maybe 5th best forward, and the Leafs desperately need a top pair RHD. Eventually, he's going to have to get moved to plug that hole, regardless. The day Tavares signed, Nylander became surplus and thus trade bait as a means to an end to acquire a top pair RHD.
- Unholy_Goalie

Sorry, I didn't quite catch your thoughts on Nylander and top pair RHD. Could you repeat it?

or he could get Savard'ed (by Tom Wilson) and not be able to sign a 2nd contract at all..
If Leafs are offering a 6/7/8 year deal for 6-6.25mln per year, from a financial security perspective it's stupid not to sign.
Everything else is just greed.

He wants money but he's losing 30k every day he doesn't sign a contract. If he takes a month he loses 900k. Kinda contradicting if you ask me.

If he ends up not signing a contract the whole year, that 7-8 million extra he's negotiating for is completely pointless lol. I don't understand these tactics he and his agent are pulling lol.

Also, there's no way he could demand the same amount of money the following year not playing at all.

He'll be rich no matter what he signs, and still has another contract to sign down the road, he's being greedy AF.

I don't know if the amount of money that he would make this year would be prorated, as you would suggest.

Say if the leafs are offering 6.5 and he ends up with 7. over a 7 year deal ..thats 3.5 mil more in his pocket

So waiting a week or 2 into the Season does seem worth it, if he does get that much more

I agree, but it’s only worth it if he gets what he wants.

If leafs aren’t budging on their number then he could possibly be throwing away money.

Nylander is going to lose this fight and the PR fight. Fans in this city are going to see him as selfish and greedy.

He's so young and hasn't really accomplished anything.

If a team offers you $6.5m for 6-8 years which amounts to $39-52million. THATS A LOT OF MONEY!

He says he's looking out for himself and hes trying to make sure hes ok long term, which is your right. You do what you have to do. But dont make is sound like the Leafs want to pay you 2mill annually.

its not his first contract and it wont be his last.

Leafs are offering you TONS of cash. the 6mill annually range is enough for Larkin, Pastrnak, Ehlers etc etc to live on, why is not enough for Nylander?

Yeah if he signs a couple weeks from now.

If he doesn't by December 1st he can't sign till the offseason and misses a whole year pay. If it's about the money, than it doesn't make much sense. Is all I'm saying.

yes and no, if you have an athletic subsc. Dellow wrote about this

https://theathletic.com/5...-toward-william-nylander/

the gap could be as much as 15-16 mil, thats a huge difference.
also mentioned is that the Leafs would then have Matthews, Marner and Nylander all without contracts at the same time.

Also factor in, the Leafs are in the win the cup right now window. Lots of factors

all his fault.
getting schooled in NHL contract negotiations.
at least it's Nylander and not Marner / Matthews.
(probably best to sign those 2 first and then work on Nylander who is lesser of 3).

I think he’s worried about locking in long term, then next year seeing Mathews and Marner get way bigger contracts and he’s ‘missed out’ on many millions.

Dubas wears really fancy glasses. They must help in negotiations.
