I don't think he was waving at the bench..he was waving as he was getting to his bench....anyways, fight the guy face to face....grabbing him and throwing punches before Eller is ready is pretty cowardly.

As an aside, I can't franking stand the whole "go to the bench and get a high five from everybody on the team" thingy. It's so franking stoopid.

Time to get rid of it altogether.

I play my son in week 12 of the HBSL.

Gentlemen, the moment you've all been waiting for: Scabeh's take on the game yesterday.

1: What an entertaining game yesterday! Lots of high pace action by both teams, might be the most fun I've had watching a hockey game since the end of the 2016-2017 season (yes, last year was that bad for Habs fans).

2: There is ALOT to like about how the Habs played yesterday, I've said a few times during preseason they'd be a tough team to play against.... it was the case yesterday and I really thought they were gonna pull off the win!

3: How (frank)ing scary are the Leafs in overtime? No team can feel alot of confidence facing the likes of Marner, Tavares, Matthews, Kadri, the blond kid who shall not me named and Rielly. Once it went to overtime, most Habs fans knew we were in trouble despite mostly dominating in the third period.

4: How fitting for Tavares to score in his first game, good for him.

5: Players I really liked for the Habs, in no particular order: Domi, Kotkaniemi, Mete, Reilly, the whole Gallagher line, Armia, Byron, Price.... I'm gonna stop there because I could go on... most of them played great.

6: Players who didn't do so well: Drouin, who really needs to stop trying to do everything by himself. We also had plenty of changeup problems during the game... cost the 2nd and 3rd goal.

7: Players I liked for the Leafs: Matthews (what a goddamn monster), Marner, Tavares, Leivo (yes, really), Kapanen (what an annoying player on the PK!) Andersen and Dermott was, imo, the Leafs best defenseman yesterday.

8: Players who didn't do so well: Most of the defense on the Leafs, so many turnovers.... Hainsey and Oz looked horribly slow out there, resulting in penalties.

9: Leafs win, it sucks but i'll take that point and I'm already looking forward to next game!

Cheers!

- Scabeh

Don't disagree with anything you've said here. Montreal is a lot faster of a team than I think people are giving credit for. Price played really well last night too.

In terms of entertainment I thought last night's game was top notch.

Then you don't get your retribution.

Imagine that argument in a court of law.

Well he didn't want to fight, so i shanked him, was it wrong?

That's the difficulty with these situations. If we apply them to civilized society, it makes no sense.

I can whack you in the face with a stick and cut you open, and I have to sit in timeout for up to 4 minutes.

I can swing a stick at your head and connect with it, and I'm not allowed to play my game or collect my allowance for a few weeks.

Hockey is not the frontier justice / gladiator sport of the 70s, but it's still rooted there. It's why, while no one can justify the atrocities that happened to Moore or Brashear (this is not comparable, those are just extreme examples), we all understand the baseline emotion in the game that gets us to those extreme scenarios.

That all being said, I will say that when I watch it again this morning, Eller's skating to his own bench with his hand up too early. I think the eye contact he makes with the Bruins bench is in response to the Marchand taking offense.

So I'll admit that Marchand's response is over the top and uncalled for, but I will note that Eller's not blameless here. He knows where the other teams' bench is.

Had his celebration been taunting the other team, I still think he'd deserve it.

Remember when Ovie did the "my stick is smoking hot" thingy?

I'm dead serious, there wasn't a single game from last season that gave me more entertainement.

I was yelling at my tv the whole time.

I wish they'd celebrate like in football (soccer), tops off, Klinsmann dive, Cahill boxing, the rowing boat, the reeling in a fish, the Cantona stance, the Robbie Keane cartwheel and flip, the Balotelli "Why Me" t-shirt, jumping in the croud, the Ketsbaia smashing poop out of everything, the Crouchie robot, the Shearer one arm in the air, the Gazza dentist chair, the Gazza Flute and the Robbie Fowler snorting the lines.

Show it actually means something to them.

I just read about that last year - apparently somebody told him to do it, and he had no idea (I certainly didn't) that it was a very anti-Catholic gesture.

Yes. He was the Jake Gardiner of the footballing world.

So him teammates (strongly protestant club) told him it would be funny to do the Sash playing loyalist flutist when he scored against Celtic (strongly Catholic club).

He proceeded to receive death threats from the IRA and eventually had to leave Rangers.

when will the players respect the (frank)ing code.... when you score..dont move, put your head down and hustle the (frank) back to the bench...do not make eye contact. take your spot and mentally prepare for your next shift.
