Look at the other contenders. That is not happening. The Leafs are the only team that does this. There were games Lreo Komorov had more TOI than Matthews last season. It's a trend., - RogerRoeper

Gentlemen, the moment you've all been waiting for: Scabeh's take on the game yesterday.
1: What an entertaining game yesterday! Lots of high pace action by both teams, might be the most fun I've had watching a hockey game since the end of the 2016-2017 season (yes, last year was that bad for Habs fans).
2: There is ALOT to like about how the Habs played yesterday, I've said a few times during preseason they'd be a tough team to play against.... it was the case yesterday and I really thought they were gonna pull off the win!
3: How (frank)ing scary are the Leafs in overtime? No team can feel alot of confidence facing the likes of Marner, Tavares, Matthews, Kadri, the blond kid who shall not me named and Rielly. Once it went to overtime, most Habs fans knew we were in trouble despite mostly dominating in the third period.
4: How fitting for Tavares to score in his first game, good for him.
5: Players I really liked for the Habs, in no particular order: Domi, Kotkaniemi, Mete, Reilly, the whole Gallagher line, Armia, Byron, Price.... I'm gonna stop there because I could go on... most of them played great.
6: Players who didn't do so well: Drouin, who really needs to stop trying to do everything by himself. We also had plenty of changeup problems during the game... cost the 2nd and 3rd goal.
7: Players I liked for the Leafs: Matthews (what a goddamn monster), Marner, Tavares, Leivo (yes, really), Kapanen (what an annoying player on the PK!) Andersen and Dermott was, imo, the Leafs best defenseman yesterday.
8: Players who didn't do so well: Most of the defense on the Leafs, so many turnovers.... Hainsey and Oz looked horribly slow out there, resulting in penalties.
9: Leafs win, it sucks but i'll take that point and I'm already looking forward to next game!
Cheers! |

Just reading what Marchand did.
Normally I hope he dies in a fire, but I'm going to stick up for him on this one.
In the first game of the season, you don't wildly celebrate the 7th goal of a 7-0 thumping, and you sure as hell don't do it in front of the opposition's bench.
Eller deserved a beatdown. |

On top of that, Marchand has to be suspended for being that stupid..
Remember, after they lost to Tampa in round 2 of the playoffs, he said he needs to clean up his act... That lasted long, right? - PatC80
It's odd. I don't like Marchand. I don't particularly like fights, and I certainly abhor unprovoked and unnecessary violence.
But I felt that what he did yesterday was justifiable. Maybe suspendable, for sure, but you don't skate by the opposition's bench when you're pasting them 7 nothing and taunt them (TWICE for the same goal) and not expect reprisal.
I hope Eller isn't hurt and that he learned a lesson.
I've read people think the Bruins should have been embarrassed rather than retaliating. I'm sure they were. They're a veteran crew who knew they stunk. What Eller did has never been condoned in ANY professional sport. There's always payback, and hockey has always been more physical in response than the other sports. |

Then there was that one breakout pass into the Habs crest that forced him to take a hooking penalty to prevent a Habs go-ahead goal with two seconds left in the 2nd period. |

Don't get me wrong, it was very unsportsmanlike of Eller to celebrate the way he did, but Marchand(won't say the Bruins) over-reacted and went to far with it.. Jumping Eller from behind was cowardly and just stupid.

Marchand is a weasel and a coward. I think if the response had been given by someone else on the Bruins, it would have been considered more justifiable because it would have been less expected.

I agree. I also don't know what happens there - realistically. Eller was going to get some payback. You're already being mashed, so this is the game to do it in. But if he won't answer the bell, and you're dead set on retribution - where does it go? Maybe the best place it could have gone was some unsolicited face punching. Because chasing a guy around the ice stick swinging or neck breaking is far worse, but not out of the realm of possibility. |
