Ya but Boston went to the 2nd round and they just got smoked 7-0

Who cares, leafs won when they didn’t deserve to win. They’ll even it out when they get a couple games under their belt and start to mesh with each other.

It was a perfect game for the leafs imo. They didn’t lose and they know they need to get better.

I like this take. It's much more positive than UG's.

What does Boston have to do with the price of tea in China? Yeah, they lost to Washington, a team that owns them. They need to play better too. What does that have to do with the Leafs lousy effort?

If that's your definition of a perfect game for the Leafs, your definition of perfect is very, very poor.

No it means the bruins aren’t going to be the worst team in the league after 7-0 bashing.

It also means the leafs won’t be a poop team after 1 game.

Let them get a few games under their belt before we start into this negativity.

The Bruins have played well enough in the past that you can brush off that loss as an oddity. The Leafs have played enough games like this one against Montreal where it should be a concern because they do it too often and get away with it because of their skill. But when the games matter, it doesn't work; see the past two years in the playoffs.

Not going to worry about that game. Matthews, JT and Marner were awful giving up the puck and that’s not going to happen very often. Even with poor play from team overall too much skill.

I don’t buy that the D owns the problems tonight.

Ew what a hapless win.. Good thing with leaf snipers they just need one shot to score because they got worked that entire third period and most of the game outside of the last half of the first period. 2 goals for Matthews and 1 for Tavares and they were both pretty much invisible. Gonna be a rude awakening when they go toe toe with teams that can actually score goals. Good ol schedule makers give them bottom feeders like Ottawa and Montreal to start every year. First 6 leaf games of the year are against teams that didn't make the playoffs last year. Gotta make sure they get a nice head start I guess hey. God I hate the leafs and everything about them.

I was at the bar drinking for the McDavid draft lottery, I will literally never forget the immediate look of complete disappointment when Edmonton won.

Leafs were outworked at 5on5 for sure but it was still a fun game. I know it wasn't pretty but it always felt like Leafs would win in the end.

Tavares and Matthews is just an incredible 1-2 punch. Anderson looks very focused. Nylander you're (frank)ing up.

All in all great to have so meaningful hockey back, it's going to be a hell of ride this year.

Do you remember 2 years ago on opening night?

Leafs played mtl. They played a really good game but they lost. There was optimism for leafs fans because they didn’t get smoked 7-0. They were in the game all night, but didn’t have the horses to win.

Eventually they finished last that season and ended up with Matthews.

Moral of the story is opening night jitters means jack poop!

Also leafs beat jets 7-3? Opening night last year and jets went to the conference final.

It’s not doom and gloom after 1 game.

Sorry man, this is bullpoop.

You can't just brush off Boston playing like crap and getting their asses handed to them, and then judge the Leafs a lost cause cause they played poopty but still managed a win.

Oooh, but Boston has a history of playing better. Toronto has a history of this stuff... blah blah blah. Don't play the right way, insert more nonesense.

I'll be honest, I'm watching Canucks-Flames right now and two things.

Van fans might be right about Pettersson.

Tanev really would look great next to Rielly. No chance for Nylander though so (frank) off.

Far from it. The Leafs have a habit of playing poorly and winning because of talent, not because of effort. It's a bad habit, the core of this team has done it for the past couple years and it's not good. It's need improvement.

One positive about tonight was Andersen playing well. Hopefully we won't have to suffer through a month of poopty play from him this year. I just knocked on my wood floor...

The usual game #1.

Ironing out the nerves and line chemistry

Keeping the fans on an emotional roller coaster.

Squeezing out a win with Gardiner highest TOI and game winning assist.

UG being a twat
