So the big worry is that both of our goalies will go down with long term injuries at the same time? I'm pretty sure the Leafs are (frank)ed if Freddy goes down long term regardless of who is stepping in horse poop down at Ricoh. - markmark
Not both, one.
Last year they had insurance, a great back up and pickard and sparks in the A.
Now if one gets injured, they have no one with nhl experience to fill in.
Again only an issue if someone gets hurt |

Well, pickard was picked up for a 6th and tobius linberg
So he did have value.
But, other teams no the leafs were screwed so they waited and got them for free - Fakepartofme
well yeah, the leafs traded for him once he cleared waivers. nobody claimed him that time. Leafs were probably hoping the same would happen this time.
I am sure they tried to get something for him before going on waivers..like Carrick |

Huh, didn't expect both goalies to get claimed.
Would've been nice to have snuck at least one down for goalie depth and helping the Marlies.
Probably should've just sent Marinpoop or Goat down. Who cares if they got picked up. And if we had injuries and really needed another defender or forward, pretty sure Mcbackup could've done the job as well as those two.
Not a huge deal though. Who knows, maybe we'll get one back through waivers in a few weeks. |

Its either when he signed Tavares or lost curtis mcelhinney on waivers. ..I cant decide which - senstroll
he also lost jvr, bozak and komarov for absolutely nothing. |

JVR= I'm sure SOMEONE will replace that production. Can't think of who though.
Bozak= No hate for him these days but not really a loss
Komarov= Spoke lots of languages, was ok on the PK and was looking slower every year.
I think the Leafs will be ok. Those 3 played their roles for a playoff run and trading them before the deadline would have made zero sense. |

Philly taking Pickard was odd.. Don't they already have 7 goalies fighting for 2 spots? - PatC80
Are you seriously looking for logic in how the Flyers manage their goaltending situation?

i'm fairly certain ozighanov could have gone down without waivers, not sure why they traded carrick to be honest, this leafs defense is still garbage and just got worse trading carrick and keeping marincin. gardiner needs to be traded before the trade deadline. |

Couldn't we just flip a 6th round pick to get back Pickard or MakeASavey?
Answer: yes, we could. |

Don't forget about Roman Polak - PatC80
roman polak probably didn't have much value outside of a late pick, but bozak and jvr especially recouped nothing out of what should have been decent returns. |

Carrick was worth a 7th round pick, but the Leafs have ruined their season by trading him.

I'd say many teams make the playoffs without an effective back-up but it comes at a price. The price is the starter plays 65+ games and runs the risk of overworking them. If that starter gets injured, a new problem arises.
McElhinney had a career year and he was 35. He should have been traded.
Can Sparks win 10 games? That's a pretty big unknown at the moment. I'm not a big fan of his at the NHL level. It's a risk to expect him to win 10+ games and even more importantly, play 25+ games and give Andersen more rest.
The Leafs have 12 back-to-back games and Sparks will be expected to play in all of them. It's the other 12 games he should be playing (versus bad teams) that he might not be trusted to play that will become an issue. - Unholy_Goalie
Seems a fair bet they tried to trade some/all of them but had no takers as they had to go on waivers.

I think Babs was saying something about mac having kids in school in Toronto and liking the city. I think they were trying to send him through waivers instead of trading him so he could stay in the city. |

He would be suspended by the team and be unable to play anywhere. I'm sure he'll report. I think the leafs asked him what he preferred to be traded or sent to the Marlies from what Babs was saying I think he chose Marlies. |

At his age/stage of career, having the family stay in Toronto for a year or two while he's at work should be no issue. |

Yeah, my kids' old school.
It's why I was hoping for MakeASavey to stay.
He donated a signed stick to the school auction.
It's kinda weird when you actually see the family, and realize that yeah, if this guy gets traded, it's a little more complicated than just packing a bag and getting on an airplane. |

are you an idiot?
the leafs defense is already bad. so why make it weaker? there was no need to dump carrick and promote marincin or ozighanov. carrick is better than both of them. |
