Have to say I am disappointed in Nylander. Thought he would have signed by now. He seems to genuinely enjoy playing here and you have to know he will be pumped to play with this forward group. At this point however, this looks really bad on him....

Losing Mcbackup is a nothing move

He has been put through waivers twice in the last few years and is a year or two away from retirement...goalies like him are a dime a dozen.

Losing Pickard kind of sucks but he cleared waivers last season and was traded for a 6th round pick. And played 1/3 of a season in the AHL last year. Another Pickard could be had for a 6th again.

Enough with this nonsense

- Santo_44

So losing a goalie that basically got you into thr playoffs 2 years ago, (crucial win) and got you 11 wins last year is nothing but losing an ahl goalie sucks?
Ok.

He won a game. Cool. Lots of goalies have won games.

A lot of no name goalies have won important games too. Stop looking for things to complain about.

Johnson was an AHL player too but if Dubas has to choose between him and Tyler Ennis do you pick Ennis? Nope. Move along man it’s not an issue.

Not complaining, its a business, such is life. Go with the younger goalie.
Just implying it was kinda a foolish comment.

I think the Mcbyebye issue is that we were going to lose him or Sparks for sure and they chose Sparks. Losing him hurts but was inevitable. Pickard was a bit more of a surprise

He doesn’t think they’re offering him what he’s worth. Why would he be so happy to play here that hes happy to give up money to go to Marner and Gardiner?

I don't think this is on Nylander.
It's the people he hired to do contract negotiations for him.
When there is no agreement yet, seems like there are two parts on the negotiation table that at least have part of responsability for not reaching agreement yet.

Dubas has not yet signed Marner / Matthews / Nylander - something which has been a top priority after Tavares was signed.
Seems Dubas might be going through a 'this is the real NHL' crash course - he's not delivering so far.

It's pretty stupid that they have Brown and Kapanen, ready, willing and able and (frank)ing Tyler Ennis is the one playing RW with Matthews. I'm sure Ennis will score a few because of Matthews but holy (frank) can they just put good players with him for (frank) sakes?

Because he is not worth 8 million per (if the reports are true). This all comes down to winning. Do you want to squeeze out an extra million, or be part of a winner? Dubas, make him sit. He has no leverage

Pretty much, it sucks to lose mcbackup, but the leafs cant get Rasked again and sparks would have definitely been grabbed on waivers.
Pickard was a surprise that someone grabbed him. Losing both hurts our depth, we really have no 3rd goalie now, but that can be filled.

Sparks sucks.
so never a chance of 'getting Rasked again'.
Sparks will be out of Leafs 23 roster mid november.

Dubas has to get this right. He holds the cards now, as of today nylander will ge losing money daily. Pennies compared to what he will sign for, but it will add up

Nah, no sense messing with the other lines chemistry.
Drop ennis there for a couple of games. Leave all other lines intack.

For someone so concerned about money he's going to be losing close to 40k per day not signing a contract. It doesn't even make sense...

Sign a contract for (frank) sakes. Take 7m and be done with it.

We'll see. Too soon for anything definitive
Many goalies play great in the ahl but dont translate to the nhl.
But i think sparks can be a decent back up.
We will soon see.

Nylander definitely has leverage: 1st of December is cut-off date for RFAs.
As much as Nylander would want to be part of this team this year, Dubas and Babcock definitely need him as well on the team.

I could see this going until mid/end-November before an agreement is finally reached.

If I'd be Nylander, I would prefer Leafs to resign Marner and Matthews before I'd take a discounted deal myself..

He doesn't suck, sure he hasn't proven much yet at this level but he hasn't even been given an opportunity. A few years ago does not count, that team was trash and we wanted to lose.

He will be practicing against one of the best forward groups in the league everyday which will help. If he gets better at being more positioned he will do fine.

Stop whining lol.

This whole goalie debate is already getting annoying as hell.

Read your comment again

You made it sound like losing an “AHL goalie” (sparks) is okay and the leafs should of done it.

Read it. It’s what is sounds like you implied.

That’s a complaint

Man, I haven't seen much discussion about it....do you think we should have tried to keep Picard and McBackup?
