There's 2 opinions of him, he started off his draft season as a ppg player and looked like he had some serious offensive potential. Part way through the season he was injured and his team had more talented/higher regarded offensive dmen return from injuries and acquired so Woo lost his PP spot and prime minutes when. He returned from injury.
IMO his ceiling is 2nd pairing and won't be a PP guy. - belcherbd

When it's all said and done for Jim Benning in Vancouver, his tenure will go down as one of the darkest periods and he'll be judged a complete failure. IMO. At this point I don't think he's any better of a GM than Kevin Lowe was. - LeftCoaster
I think Jim will go down in history as the worst manager of any professional sports franchise. |

We suck this year. Add a top 5 pick and perhaps a late first / second.
New core of:
-EP, BB, BH, QH, OJ + next years high pick (hope)
If these things happen we’ll be pretty good not this year, Not next, but next:
- demko actually turns out to be a top 10 starter (having doubts now)
- OJ is a very good top 4
- QH is top 2 and gets points
- JV establishes himself as a legit NHL player
- 1-2 other D step up
- 3-5 other forward prospects develop really well
Oh boy as I type it we need a lot to happen but I believe lol

A blind, paraplegic cum guzzling monkey could have picked these players (or better ones) based on the draft position. Benning hasn't done any of the things he said he would. |

i haven't really watched him (or most prospects in depth tbh). does this kid have a real shot? (shot to make the league as well as point shot).
i was under the impression he's a physical guy/shutdown role? is this wrong?
in your opinion: what's his best case scenario/top potential? what's his likely scenario meaning what's your take on him? what's his floor? - RealityChecker
I've never seen him play personally just what I have read. Not a super offensive player but more of a meat/potatoes guy/grinder/hitter. For sure he has the NHL body/frame to play much in the way Horvat did his early years. Scouting says more of a passer than a shooter but his shot has been called 'very effective'. He won't really be a Salo type but will fill some of Salo's gaps we are missing. So they say. |

He’s got some pretty decent looking later picks that are developing. And a couple college signings.
It’s not all bad my friend.

Jasmin is a good pickup.... I think he's a better player than Schaller/Motte/Archibald etc for that energy role. |

If the dollar is right the term can be flexible.
Just to poke my nose in on the fire/don't fire conversation, if as an owner my GM shows a pattern of over paying term on veteran players and then burying them in the minors, I would bury him in the Fraser with a thick pair of concrete shoes. I didn't get rich by paying AHL scrubs $3m per year. - 1970vintage

I was one of them who had a meltdown. By the looks of things, I will be eating crow over that pick.
I have zero problem with that, as Petterson has some super skill, defensive awareness, great attitude, and so far, gives us faithful, something too be excited about.
I have already hunted for my crow, and will be serving it for thanksgiving dinner.😁 |

For all the hard work to show how other teams have built. Lefty has only ever shown how it takes almost 10 years of missing the playoffs to become better. Yet Van should have done it after 5 years. |

I posted the link to that thread a while ago, there were definitely a few who voided their emotional bowels, but others who liked it (FYI Lefty was one of them).
I’m not sure how this refutes my point about the monkey though? Also, recent news flash, Pettersson was a Delorme pick |

ray ferraro: "The only free agents the Canucks should be signing are like when the Leafs signed a whole bucket of guys to one-year deals. You can't have 15 kids in the lineup, cuz then you get your teeth kicked in. But there's no point signing vets to multi-year deals"
1: The leafs at this time had a bunch of buried contracts in the minors (different scenario than current Canucks)
2: As much as it pains me to say it, but TOR (in their dark times) was always a more enticing market to players than Vancouver in our dark times
3: Much easier said than done, but at the same token, I don't think he's wrong. - Codes1087
Players don't want to come here on one year contracts. We have to go over term and price until were good again |

Benning said it would turn around quickly. He said he liked his D, his goaltending and his forward group every season, and that they would be challenging for the playoffs. He traded away picks more easily than he acquired them and now, finally, he’s preaching patience, draft and develop. This is why he’s a failure, not for the actual players he has selected with all those high picks. Maybe Sutter should be the GM, at least he had the stones. |

News flash, they generally are the picks of the head scouts and the scouting team as a whole.
I get that you don't like JB. So, there is no point beating away at this subject. We wont agree.
Question tho, is there any GM that anybody has ever liked longer than 6 weeks for the Canucks?
This fanbase loves its drama.
For complete transparency, I was one of the ones who was like WTF when they selected EP but I was ultimately open-minded about him.... |
