I doubt they would.
1 million too much.
Also, nylander has to accept the offer.
People seem to forget that. - Fakepartofme
Its more than they would want to pay..but i dounbt they would take the 3 picks for him instead |

In a 1/1 trade, the return is probably of greater value than those 3 picks imo. |

I imagine that Colorado would speak with Dubas first about a trade, before blindsiding him with an offer sheet. I don't buy the idea that GM's would never offer-sheet, but I think there would be some courtesy.
If Matthews does not get signed before next summer, I would bet that at least 1 team would offer-sheet him for 13+ Montreal? San Jose?
I also believe he would sign it. |

If someone offer-sheets a player, and the team with is RFA rights matches... can they trade him?

sure, its happened..so of course there is a chance.
One team has let the player go in 20 years. all the rest matched.
the Circumstances have to be right for a player to want to leave also, only Weber has really signed a large deal in the last decade..and you couldnt blame him on that one.
came accross this while looking some stuff up
In an attempt to dissuade the Red Wings from matching, Carolina's contract was unusually front-loaded, and included a $12 million bonus if Fedorov reached the conference final, a far greater likelihood with the perennially contending Red Wings than the struggling Hurricanes. Detroit did match the offer sheet and Fedorov was paid $28 million for the season.
still didnt work |

In case of an offer sheet, team has a week (i think) to match it.
Would the team as well be able to work on a deal to trade the player to a third team, with the 3rd team matching the offer sheet?
so example:
Colorado offersheets Nylander 5 years @8million. That's picks in round 1-2-3 2019.
Toronto then trades Nylander to Columbus for Jenner + 1st + 2nd (before end of that 7 day period)
Then Columbus matches the offersheet.
Colorado gets nothing.
is that possible? |

So anyway, it'll be interesting how the Leafs fare without Nylander for the time being. Looking forward to first game of the season, though I'll be ball-hockeying until about 9pm or so. |

they can obviously work out a trade during the 7 days, then match offersheet, and inmediately trade the player.
