Ever hear the phrase "your goalie is your best penalty killer"?

It wasn't 100% Andersen's fault but at the same time he wasn't as good as he usually is. He finished the playoffs with a .899 SV% which was several points lower than his regular season total. Part of that is bad defense, part of that is fatigue from having to carry the team all year.

Brutal because the Bruins were better and were better for most of the year. It was a bad match-up. The Bruins had a great 1st line that shutdown Matthews, they play strong possession, team defense style and their goalie is pretty good. Overall, the Bruins had the Leafs beat in almost every category. The bottom line is that the Bruins were better.

My faveorite UG point right now is the fact that draft picks and young players who can help them in 5 years are worth gold for the leafs over guys who can help them now.

But apparently having a 35 year old backup over losing Sparks...a goalie who will help them in the future is a bad move.

But they weren't because they didn't have enough good pieces or playing the right way to be that tad better. That's the point you're missing.

Except that he might suck.

And I'm also pretty sure I said multiple times, McElhinney was the worst option to keep as the back-up and that I'd rather have Sparks and Pickard over McElhinney.

And also, the Leafs already have a #1 goalie so the priority here is to have a capable back-up who can keep that #1 well enough rested for the playoffs.

But they weren't because they didn't have enough good pieces or playing the right way to be that tad better. That's the point you're missing.
