Sparks is an AHL goalie.. Hes better at the AHL than Pickard.

Pickard has NHL experience and a NHL record to look at.

Pickard is the best option.

86GP.. .913 career average.. Still young enough to be a core piece.

Trade Sparks and roll with McBackup and Kaskisuo on the Marlies

- Arctic_AARDVARK

I'm leaning this way as well.....McBackup can always come back if pickard falters...
as for the D....keep holl up with the big boys as the 7th, send marincin to waivers, trade sparks and carrick for scraps

I think you're placing FAR too much emphasis on the contributions McBackup will bring to the team in their quest to "win it all".

Also, yeah, so the Leafs are a legitimate contender for the Cup this season. Sure, I agree completely. But we also have to consider assets moving forward and continue to develop and have patience with prospects in the pool.

McBackup is a dead end and he's not going to be the difference this year nor next (or beyond).

- mjones242

I was talking about the obvious decisions and considerations of the Leafs. You obviously missed my post of not giving a twat about the back up but went ahead and told me a fictional story of the emphasis i didnt put on something.

It's not about how awesome McBackup is. It's the lack of confidence in the other guys. At the end of the day if Anderson goes down were (frank)ed whether it's sparks Pickard or McBackup filling in.

he's never really had a chance, aside from a handful of games for a horrible leafs team a few years ago. Pickard should have outplayed Sparks if he's an NHL goalie.

Rielly> Any defenceman you have...

Trouba is overrated, Byfug is fat and slow and a pretty poopty skater, Myers is averge and probably Maurice's favorite. The rest who gives a (frank). Leafs have Sadin and Liljegren in the pipes who will both be NHL players. Your farm system looks pretty meh.

I realize you are probably being facetious, but if you believe that, then sparks should be sent to my beer league team.

Obviously, he's had a bad preseason. Don't think judging him on just preseason is the way to go but whatever. Not a huge deal anyway

I'm trying to understand the "fear" of losing McElhinney. He's a 35 year old backup goaltender who may be our best option... but by how much over Sparks/Pickard?! How many wins above replacement (to use a baseball term) does McE give you over either of the younger options?

He was a really poor man's backup before he landed in Toronto too. His numbers since have been great, but always beware good stats on small sample sizes. If he was a 35 year old 4th liner, he'd already be in the ahl.

I like the word "squander".

Leivo has been in charge of his own destiny for a few years now.

He's earned a spot opening night, but just barely. I wish him luck though.

This
And I agree, who gives a rat's ass about the backup goalie. Does anyone know who the Jet's backup is? Its Laurent (frank)en Brossoit - wtf is that? Might as well pull the goalie for the entire game if Hellybuck goes down.

I pooped on McElbackup last night. Plus I was still amazed how 90% of the champion Marlies seemed like they could give 2 franks about making the team. Or, the pressure was too much for them. Outside of a few possibilities, time to cut bait and bring in a whole new crop of prospects next year.
