No, this extends their time to make a decision by another month. Mcbackup can now go up and down as the leafs please once he passes waivers. - Fakepartofme
If he clears waivers, then no harm done.. I guess. I wanted to keep Pickard. Oh well, I'm relatively certain that Babcock and Dubas know the team better than I do. |

I wonder if Buffalo would still consider taking Babcock at this point... |

People are really optimistic about him in general. He's been going quite high in the Yahoo Fantasy drafts. - TheMussel
Lost in all this, is that Gauthier has made the team.. Not sure how to feel about that. |

Donald Trump and Doug Ford both won elections.. I'm surprised it's only 59% |

Ya ok. I get a kick out of the banter about oh we should keep this guy and get rid of this guy, lol. Really? I think there is a lot better things to talk about how we know better than Babs or Dubas. Kind of like when people in TORONTO say Gardner is garbage and yet Babcock says he's elite. Like who really knows best? - TOGENIUS
Did Babs really call him elite? I remember the wording "not really sure what he's going to do out there sometimes" |

Yikes. Sparks has looked bad.
But really, no way in heck Mcbackup can repeat what he did last season. - RogerRoeper
You know, I was of the same impression, but read a good article on the backup situation at The Athletic and McBackup is really on pace to regress hard.
He has the worst adjusted (5v5) save percentage of any active goalie in the NHL.
Sparks plays a similar "athletic" style (i.e. out of position often), but he needs a longer look.
My dark horse was Pickard, because besides that flop season in COL on a historically bad team, he plays a sound positional/blocking style, which I'll always favour over highlight reel Quick-like saves that look awesome, but leave you scratching your head why he was swimming in the first place...
But seeing how little these guys are going to play behind Andersen anyways, you almost have to go with your protege to set the tone of your development process that "yes, if you 'overripe' in the AHL, you'll get a shot with the Big Club'.
He has nothing left to accomplish in the Marlies and like 87% who've played as well as he has have gone on to become NHL starters.
Now I don't know if he's capable of being a backup: different preparations, voodoo, etc. required for that. McBackup has shown that he was, but who knows. I do believe that nobody will claim him, so if Sparks poops the bed, we can call him back up. |

Poor Carrick, I liked his game at times....

As much as I didn't like his game, I did appreciate that he was willing to get scrappy in front of the net even though he's pretty small. |

When Carrick first came up he had some edge to his game which he has since lost. I think that's one of the reasons he became less effective. |

No its not.
This is simply a formality.
Gives them more time to decide. Now mcbackup and go and back and forth with no issues.
Gives them time to see if sparks is really this sh!tty in the nhl. |
