Does that bring it down to 23? Excluding injured players?

So they're still 1 over? Gotta think they're shopping Scherbak with very little success... Benn could be waived no problem

I agree buddy. I think they might be bit better than ppl expect, but they will have to be able to shut down teams with Bergeron, Stamkos, Barkov, and Matthews. Will be tough for sure, but they have some good players here
- Brandon Smillie

wether Price returns to form or not, Habs wont finish ahead of
TB, FLA, TOR, BOS in the East
and
PIT, WASH, CLB in the metro

they will have to beat NJ, NYI and especially PHI for the last remaining spot.
I don't see it. no even close.

If the Habs pull a (frank)ing miracle out of a hat and are in contention for a wild card spot, then say hello to continued mediocrity for the next 10 years... Not only will they miss a chance at a likely top 3 pick, because MB will trade away valued assets and picks to get a bunch of 3rd and 4th liners for depth at a playoff run (that will never happen).

This team is poop. The defence is likely the worst in the NHL - and that is with Weber in the lineup. It is going to take 2-3 years to get the prospect forwards in the lineup, and 4-5 years to fix the defence.

Playoffs?

You guys are (frank)ing nuts.

I'd be shocked if this team manages to win more than the 29 games from last year.

You forgot to mention our 10.5 million dollar goalie that gets paid for the next eternity is playing like a 1.5 million dollar one. I hated that deal when it was signed, but somehow it turned out even worse than my most pessimistic estimations predicted. Salary cap inflation accounted for, it's on even footing to Scott Gomez for worst value.

Better goalies like Cory Schneider who makes 6 million right now would be getting paid around 9 if the cap was increased 1.5 times. I dont think it can be overstressed just how bad Price's contract value actually is.

It's because even he knows that he's not worth his contract so he will try not to collect all of it

When the Habs picked Kotkaniemi at #3, I'd thought your management team had been crazy to pass up Tkachuk and Zadina, but after the little I saw Kotkaniemi in preseason I'll have to re-evaluate my opinion. Maybe the Habs brass knows a little more about these prospects than a random fan.

The kid looks really good. Hopefully he turns into a good center for you guys.

At this point, I kinda consider Price's contract irrelevant.

They have no one else to give that money to, so it has really zero impact on the team. And likely for the next 2-4 years, it will continue to be that way. Beyond that, if the kids do pan out, then it will be a major issue. Especially if they want to add to the young core with a good productive veteran via trade or free agency.

Unless we're completely irrelevant for the next 8 seasons, it's going to be a problem at some point to have a goalie who's not even playing at an average level occupying 1/9 or 1/10 of our cap (assuming it increases) unless we get a compliance buyout. I dont think I've ever seen a better example of paying for past performance when they signed that contract. If Weber somehow gets some perceived value this season, they should flip him too.

*Kotkaniemi, a timeline*

September: Kotkaniemi makes the team
October: Kotkaniemi plays centre
December: Kotkaniemi moves to RW
February: Kotkaniemi has "character issues"
Trade deadline: Kotkaniemi is dealt to NJD (or similar) for Steve Santini (or similar)

Come on now, there's already so much to be unhappy about with this team, no need to grasp for straws to try and find more.

Yeah, we're more or less agreeing? Even if he's not a problem at this second him and Weber are clearly going to be ugly problems in the future.

Finally those god awful elections will be over tonight...

At this point I don't even care who's gonna be in charge of this dumb province...just get it over with so we can move on to something else.

Just need to get the party in who will easily get us out of debt with all the assests owned by the province
