Now you’ve gone and alienated yourself because of a poor choice in beverages. This way worse than a Gonce or Sutter fascination. I won’t be able to talk to you in public anymore.

True, in the 100 to 120 range the are some great ones. But I just cracked a 149 dollar 16y single and it's otherworldly good. My cousin and I have a one upper birthday tradition and we're into that price range now..... so good.

You need to get yourself an Aberfeldy 21 year. You will thank me.

Well, seeing as you are open to suggestion, I guess we can still be friends.

Bourbons tend to be seeeter than Rye and Scotch. Irish Whiskey might be a good starting point for you, triple distilled, and a portion of un-malted barley is used in the mash making them smooth and a little sweet.

I am open to suggestions. Not looking for anything that is primarily used for mixing, but rather on its own, or on the rocks.

Like I said, Whisk(e)y can be tremendous but it takes time to discover what you like. Based on your comments about enjoying liqueurs my impression is you would like seeeter, smoother styles. So Kentucky Bourbon is a good option, it’s made from corn, aged in charred American oak barrels giving it a seeet vanilla character. Brands are all about marketing, so don’t buy the cheapest, but maybe not an expensive one just yet. Good Rye can also be great, but the Crown Royals etc are commercial plonk that are better for mixing with coke and getting drunk than for sipping and enjoying.

Scotch is very different based on what part of the country it comes from. Stick to Speyside or even more generic, highlands. They tend to use very little peat in the process and are much smoother. As your palate develops you will crave a stinky campfire in a glass from Isla. As I said earlier, Irish would be a good introductory spirit for you, generally smooth and a little sweet.

I'll put it on my list, I'd imagine I need a few more cake days to get into that range.

Threw out some choice liqueurs in a previous post — but one thing to avoid is putting too much ice in. Not only will it dilute the alcohol over time as it melts, if you keep it too cool it will stunt the taste and depth of a lot of it. Most scotch people put a drop or two of water in as that helps open up the palette on it. If you want things cooler, you can invest in some chilling rocks that you keep in the freezer that will cool the drink, but won’t dilute it.

It’s a Speyside, and just the right amount of everything. Some peat, but not peaty, incredibly complex, so satisfying. I bought my wife a bottle at Christmas a few years back and I think we have about 1/3 left. It’s certainly a special occasion drink, I think it was $300ish.

I only put ice in if I’m thirsty. I do like ice in a cask strength Bourbon, brings the abv down just a bit and cuts the seeetness a bit.

I have some of those stones, don’t really like them. Prefer one big cube if I’m feeling like a pansy that day

Might be a bit out of my price range but it sounds exquisite.
I'm looking in the $150 range but exactly what you described.
We going to Uculet at an ocean front resort in late November. The suite we are looking at has 3 levels, a hot tub on 2 of them and a huge soaker tub on the other level.

I imagine I would probably use 1 or 2 more than what most of the guys in here would use in their drinks lol. I have no problem admitting that, not going to fake it and say I know my hard liquor when I don't

I just got blocked for a second time on Twitter by Botchford yesterday. He doesn't like when fans rain on his narratives.

He unblocked the first time when he moved behind the paywall. I guess it's best to maximize the number of people you can convince to pay money to read paragraph-less articles.

Yesterday from TSN Radio: "I'm convinced if you made all the #Canucks defense free agents, Del Zotto would be on a PTO, Pouliot on a PTO, and Hutton would have signed a 1-year, last-chance, min-wage deal. And Gudbranson probably should be on a PTO, but he fits a skill set the NHL still chases"

My response: "I'm convinced if you suggested Botchford was a top drawer "sports reporter" he'd immediately move himself behind a paywall. Well, except for these radio hits, because they fit a skill set this toxic fan base still chases."

They’re so heavy, rattle a lot in the glass. Never used them much. Water or one small cube. Unless it’s a cocktail, then a big cube is great for a negroni or old fashioned.
