Oops I quoted the wrong person. My unclear point was that Edmonton and Toronto didn't get to be a playoff contender without years of suckage - which we probably will follow. I wouldn't say their drafting was the best but they had a lot of chances to try. After years being together, their young guys are finding chemistry.

They also have something that we have never been graciously been given, or lucky to land, and that is a 1st overall pick. McDavid is generational, Matthews might be pretty damn close to one. I am not super up to date with the upcoming kids in the draft, but I am not sure Jack Hughes has the same potential as say Matthews even.

Agreed. He is more like Nico, but, if we end up with him, he will be better than McDavidšŸ˜

Not really a kid, is he? I think he's 24?

Edit: nope he's 23 and he's only played 79 games so you're right, imo, he basically beat out our world-beater Gaunce.

- LeftCoaster

From where I stand, 24 is a child.

Getting old sucks.

Speaking of plugs, when do we hear if our beloved Gaunce clears?

Gaunce would clear most AHL team waivers.

Stop piling on. Heā€™s not that bad. He has scored goals and made capable plays at the nhl level but just hasnā€™t made that push to secure himself a regular spot on a really poopy team.

Not sure if my above statement helped or hindered Gaunceā€™s defence.

Then those kids are not the type of players needed. I think Benning knew he had a group of underachieving prospects which is why he added Beagle-Roussel-Schaller.

Dude, gaudette had the years of development in a mens league, is a Hobey Baker winner and I've been assured by others online that he's ready for 3LC duties at the least. This sending him down is a travesty and should signal Bennings death knell.

Anyone who only has bottom 6 potential as a prospect is going to get poop on here, I've come to terms with it. Too bad, you need 15-20 point defensive guys too

He's a good AHL player, would actually be a nice asset for Utica and could help the prospects down there.

Did you hear it from the same person that said Gaunce would make the club and location betting people?

Probably because those types of players are easier to sign as free agents without breaking the bank.

It's the core players that you really need to draft and develop.

That's the thing: he has actually been very constant if you look at his stats and ppg. He is just not liked. Lou is having none, none of the previous gm's had time for it.

Ya we just signed 3 for 3 mil each. if Gaunce can be that for half the price because you have his rights that's smarter than UFA.

edit: something something asset management

Well I didn't really like those signings in terms of value outside of maybe Roussel, but some of the smart teams wait out the first few days of UFA and find some nice depth for peanuts.

it's true, those were well above market value. anyway, my point is you need to be able to produce guys in position in the lineup. Gaunce can play bottom 6 and special teams and get 20 points IMO. Every team needs that. Not saying it's like sky high value or if we lost him it's brutal. just saying. He's better than a lot of what we have in Utica, who are career ahl guys. including Biega, Boucher and Archibald all who people on here seem to like. But not Gaunce.. because he's young? Drafted high? not sure.

Sorry I do think he's that bad at doing that hockey, at pro level.

That said, I'd take him on my beer league team. We don't care how minuscule the shooting % ... as long as he brings the beer. We got a guy plays the same way we can pair him with - all grind all the time line.

All serious, as a person/fan/customer who pays to watch the team (when they're in Calgary), he strikes a nerve in particular as he always gets the call-up and it's painful to watch the play die on his stick every time. Maybe he doesn't turn it over but he either dumps it, makes a grenade pass or the most non-threatening attempt on goal. Vancouver's been bad for years and the writing has been on the wall about it going in for years. I've just never understood why such little patience for guys with some offensive flair and defensive lapses when you're going to be bad whether it's a Gaunce or Shirokov.
